For those who have gone through the process, just wondering how long it takes on average to sell a used car? When do you know if you've set the price right or if you need to drop it?

Depends on the car, its condition, age, kms travelled, where you live, how desperate you are to sell etc. Could take one week or 6 months.

check out carsales.com.au to view comparative cars

check out redbook.com.au for used car prices

good luck

Some cars are easy to sell, others aren't. A girl at work tried to sell her Holden Cruze (old style, not the current hatch/sedan) on Drive and Cars.com and after 6 months she took it off the market. She's still driving it.
But something like a Nissan x-trail or Fird Focus or Subaru Inpreza would sell very quickly if it was priced appropriately and in good condition.

We recently sold 2 of our cars one a 2009 and a 2010 model. The sedan took about 2 months and the ute closer to 6. We are in a small town in Qld and I had them on carsales but ended up selling through buy, swap, sell page on FB (both) and both owners got a bargain in the end!!
Hope yours sells quickly original.gif

Thank you for your replies everyone.

(It's a 2010 Toyota 4WD, it's only been on line for 3 days, I'm just super impatient!)

My Honda jazz I had a buyer within 24 hrs who purchased the car.

DH's Astra took 2-3 wks

My old SAAB 900 took 8 wks to find the right buyer.

Never dropped the price on any car. We researched price and set ours accordingly.

This is really important. When I sold DH's car, I looked up the red book price, it was in great condition, ran well and we priced it at the low end of what they recommended. We sold it to the 3rd guy who looked at it. I would have kept it if I could have got 3 car seats in it!

It took about two weeks to sell my late model Mazda 2. We looked on redbook and got the used car price for the kilometres and condition there. We advertised it for $12,500, got $11,200 which I was happy with as the redbook value was $11,500 wink.gif
