I am wondering in what circumstances can you get a false positive?

We've been trying for 11 months now and I'm struggling to believe I could actually be pg...My cycles are irregular (between 27 and 41 days) so I have no idea how "late" I am. I got a positive OPK on cd20 and cd21. It is now cd34.

I did a test last night and got a complete negative.

I did it again this morning (using internet cheapie tests) and got a very faint line. Does a very faint line really even count? Is there something else to cause a very faint line?

I did two more tests straight after and got an even fainter line on the internet cheapie and a complete negative on a First Response test (tmi but i had very little urine left to test on!). These are internet cheapies detecting 10ml.Not sure how much FR detects....

So, false positive or could I be...?

I really hope so...but I thought First Response was supposed to be more accurate than the Internet cheapies and it was a BFN...

Is it worth testing again this afternoon or do I need to wait till tomorrow morning?

A dr told me last September she thought I had a false positive caused by blood in urine. The test done at dr came out neg however she ordered a blood test anyway. The levels were so low she suspected an early miscarriage. That false positive is now wiggling in my arms when he is meant to be feeding. Congratulations!!!

I'm not an expert, but from what I've read you can have false negatives, but usually not a false positive. Go to the doc and get a blood test, and you'll know for certain.

Congrats!!!

I had a very feint line with an IC at 9 DPO and a BFN with FRER.

Then I tested with FMU at 11DPO and had a definite positive with the FRER and the IC.

If the line is there and it has colour in I would pretty much say it is a BFP. You can either test again woth FMU in a few days time or go and see your Dr for a blood test.

Congratulations and the best of luck :-)

I turned into a bit of a mad woman yesterday. I realised the FR test I used was not an ER one so I did the early response one which possibly had the faintest line ever. So faint it may not have even been there, I don't even know, I was a crazy woman holding it up in different lights, tilting it. I did probably another 5 cheapies during the day all showing a very faint line.

But this morning I got a negative on a cheapie as well when I should have had more hcg today if I were pg sad.gif

So I guess that's it. Maybe a chemical pregnancy, maybe a bad batch of
IC, don't know, but no baby this month sad.gif

OMG had to come back an update. I was so dissaponted this morning about the negative, but AF still hadn't arrived by lunch so I went and bought some more First Response ER tests (with the plan of testing in a few days if AF hadn't arrived). Me being me did one anyway, like a last ditch attempt at closure or something and omg it was positive!! biggrin.gif

A full proper dark line came up by 3 minutes! I am so happy but terrified at the same time it won't stick.

Just had to come back and let you all know after my previous sad sack post
