We got our IVF welcome pack in the mail yesterday, and it said now is the time to look after yourself and what you eat etc.

Most of the meals DH and I eat are ok. We always have salad or veggies (no sauces or dressings etc) so I'm not so worried about our meals.

It is more our snacking that is bad. Between meals we tend to eat bad things like shapes, chips, m&ms etc. Not all the time, but a few times a week. I try to be good, I'm always buying fresh fruit but either the birds eat it or it goes in the bin. I know its a bad excuse, but it is much easier to grab a handful of chips than it is to slice up an apple (due to a root canal I can't just pick up and eat an apple), especially when we're on the run in our business. We are also in a store a few days a week where there is not really anywhere to prepare food.

So can anyone give me some good healthy eating snack ideas? Maybe in the morning when I'm making breakfast i should be preparing snacks for the day so I don't have the excuse of not having time during the day!

You can eat 30 grapes for about 90 calories.

Nuts such as almonds & walnuts are good.

Protein bars are awesome; yummy, filling & low carb.

Yoghurt is another idea if you can keep it cold.

Vita wheats. 4 crackers with vegemite for example is about 100 calories, filling and have good wholegrains.

I used to make up a snack box which contained a variety of things like: a couple of dried dates for a big sugar hit, walnuts or almonds, batons of sliced carrot/celery/ capsicum, I used to include some hummus dip or low fat tatziki, sliced fruit and possibly some protein bar or cubed cheese original.gif Also air-popped popcorn is great.

A few of my usual snacks are:

Bananas
Apples
Strawberries
Air-popped popcorn
Nuts (around 30g)
Pumpkin seeds
Sunflower seeds
Cottage cheese on rice cakes
Celery and hummus or tzatziki
protein bar if I'm out and about
spicy broad beans (like chips, yum!)
Formé yoghurt - especially the dessert ones original.gif
Home-made apple & cinnamon mini muffins
Dried mango
Dried apple
Cheese and crackers with cherry tomatoes

I know it's a pain preparing things, but you just need to have stuff cut up in Tupperware containers ready to go, then you won't be tempted. original.gif
