In response to a thread on here about a facebook friend the OP has never met and various other ones before, I often wonder how people have facebook friends they have never met. I don't mean it in a critical way, I am genuinely curious.

Also when people on here talk about offensive things they have read on Facebook that have been posted by their friends, how are you friends with these people in the first place? I am not questioning why you are friends with them, just how you are friends with people who have such extreme, offensive opinions, to the point that you have had to defriend them. Again, not being critical, just curious?

My fb friends I haven't met are friends from EB who live far away. Off the top of my head I've met everyone else, except my friend's dog as they are overseas lol
Eta - I've deleted one guy for offensive posts, and another girl has one more chance til I do the same.

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
Most of my online FB friends are from EB. Them, and the ones I have met IRL from EB are generally better friends than my "real" friends (eg colleagues/acquaintances/school friends etc)

All my online FB friends generally have the same views as me hence why we get along, the extreme ones who are the most offensive are generally colleagues, ex school friends etc. But I don't bother keeping people as FB friend who offend or upset me, what would that achieve?

I have a couple of FB friends who I have never met. They are friends or relatives of my DH... they are only connected to me as I add pics of our kids, and he doesn't. I can't imagine I would keep any friend who is offensive, annoying or insulting... even if they were family!

These days, I have a pretty small Facebook friends list (100 and something) and the only "friends" I have that I haven't met are either people I know through work (but they work in different states or countries to me) and some extended family of my fiance's that I haven't met yet but that have added me.

However in the past when I played online video games and was more involved in different forums, I had quite a varied group of "online friends" on Facebook. A lot of them were interesting characters that ended up being deleted from my Facebook for attention seeking or stupid/offensive things constantly being posted.

I have around 20 from eb I've never met, I consider 7 of them my best friends (the rest of you are awesome too!). I have another 5 or 6 I've never met IRL that I've become friends with from old Facebook groups, we just always commented on stuff got in to conversations and eventually added each other. I've been friends with most of these people for 3+ years.

Friends from forums. Some I've known... holy crap... eight or so years...? Maybe ten?

Others are from EB. EB came much later though.

Met my husband on ye olde ancient forum, actually. Knew him for years online before we started online dating, then flew out to Australia having not met him in person. He didn't chop me up into pieces. If we weren't together no way would I be on EB annoying y'all, so blame him! biggrin.gif

None. There are 297 of them and I know all of them. Those I know least are friends from school who I haven't seen for years, but did spend 6 years of my life with them. There is noone who I have only met once or twice. They really are all or have been friends at some point, all who I have spent a significant amount of time with. Apart from one or two who I know outside of work, I don't make friends with work people on facebook.
I have had a few requests from friends of friends who I may have met at a party etc, and a few from friends of friends who I have never met (that I recall) but I never accept them.
