Quinn Silas has arrived!
I'm having bacon and mushroom risotto for dinner tonight as DP is out and she hates it. I've added tons of extra onions and garlic just the way I like it, and luckily the kids like it too. original.gif

I rarely make it, but every time I do I think about the first time I ever ate risotto 16 years ago when my bestie brought over a container his mum (who I didn't really know) had made for us to eat for dinner. That bestie is now my children's father and his mum is their much-loved nanna, whom we are now very close to. Risotto = good memories.

My dad on the other hand once almost vomited when I made him a breakfast of marmalade on toast. He then told me how as a child his aunt had pushed him off a wall in the backyard for refusing to eat marmalade on toast. There was a 2 metre drop on the other side and my dad was paralysed for almost two years until he regained the ability to walk again. I knew he'd been pushed off the wall and what happened, but never why. Marmalade = very bad memories.

Anyone else have a food that evokes a certain memory or feeling?

2 minute noodles............About 12 years ago my friend started making them after we got home from a night out. We were pretty drunk. Anyway, to help out i snipped the tops off the flavouring packets. She didnt see me do it, and picked one up and shook it. It went in her face and all over the kitchen. I was rolling on the floor, almost peeing myself with laughter! I always think of it when i make 2 min noodles now biggrin.gif

Full cream plain milk..

When I was a kid in the early 1970's, I distinctly remember kindy and first class we had to drink a small container or bottle of milk. I remember all sitting outside and being given our milk, and it was always warm and made me sick..

I still feel sick to this day thinking about it and cannot drink full cream milk, or plain milk! sick.gif

The smell of a tomato based pasta meal, reminds me of my mum. Sweet memories as she was such a good cook.

Chocolate cinnamon rolls!! Recipe on Tandaco Yeast pack

Takes me back to childhood, my brother used to love making them all the time. I've never found any since that tasted as good or even remotely the same.

Lemon chicken. The first time I went out to dinner sans parents, a group of my horsey friends and I went to a Chinese restaurant. We were 15 but feeling ever so grown up, sipping G&Ts and eating essentially ordinary food. I had never had lemon chicken before and I rarely do now but if I am feeling a bit nostalgic, this is the dish I will crave.

I love your story about the risotto, what a fabulous story.

Foster Clarks custard powder. On Christmas Day, my beloved Nanna would make a huge batch to go over her home made apple pie for dessert after our big dinner. I can't make it the same way she did! And it's a packet mix.

I have many, but these two came to mind first, and funnily enough are both soft drink, and both have family connections.

I can't drink Fanta without thinking of my grandma and grandpa; or "Cocktail" (Loys pineapple maybe?) or lime flavour without thinking of my nan and pop.

RIP my beautiful angels hheart.gif

ETA I thought of another- BBQ shapes and strawberry & kiwi Oasis reminds me of summer in Phillip Island with my bestie back in the day.

Strawberry jam. The first time I tasted it was when I had gone to Scotland with my mum. We were visiting her cousin and I was given toast s otherwd with this incredible strawberry jam. Now everytime I open a jar of strawberry jam, I have to smell it. Weird I know.

Minestrone soup and osso bucco are both favourite comfort foods of mine as they were basically the only things my dad ever cooked (aside from barbeques anyway) when I was younger.
