Hi all, just would like to know what DD will be learning next year and what reading level they should be at by then, and if there is anything we should be working on now?

My son is in Grade 2 this year (Vic). There is more of an emphasis on reading comprehension and different styles of writing e.g. narrative, persuasive. In terms of reading levels, around level 20 is the expected by the end of grade 2 in Vic.

Maths
have a look at IXL online--> it has the whole year 2 curriculum there for you to look at for free (or pay a small amount to use it monthly). But a big focus of mental maths strategies.

English
reading--> maybe about 1/4 f the class started off readers in yr 2 and now, by the end of the year, about 1/2 to 3/4 are off or will be off by end of term
comprehension--> heaps and heaps, especially inferential questions
writing--> specific structures must be mastered

Maturity
a much larger emphasis on organising yourself, your homework diary and handing things in independently

Sport
Team sports with a much greater emphasis on rules and strategies (as opposed to just skill focus)

Science
it was there in the curriculum but nothing earth shattering

Music
the treble clef notes and basic music reading and playing (on a xylophone)

I could go on and on, which areas are you interested in
