I found this dress online while looking for nursing dresses. It's a maternity dress (not nursing).

Do you think I could wear it anyway, it doesn't look as though it has too much belly material. Could it be easily modified by someone who does modifications (they go in an unpick things, modify and resew). I wouldn't plan on having it adjusted to be a breast feeding dress.

It is just such a nice dress and I have so much trouble finding dressy dresses that I like.

It doesn't look like it would be terribly easy to alter - the spacing of the panels would probably end up all wrong. It might sit ok on a non pregnant belly but you'd really want to try it on first.

I sew, but I wouldn't try to alter something like that for the reasons given by PatG.

I hate it when they have photos like that, with the dress held on a silly angle so that you can't see how it sits.

I think that dress would be an absolute nightmare to alter for breastfeeding, simply dealing with those beaded panels would make it troublesome.

For breastfeeding dresses I found it easier to go into real world stores and have a look to see what items of fashion selections could work for breastfeeding, it's pretty amazing just how many items from the regular fashion ranges work for breastfeeding without the need for any alterations.

I agree with this. I tried wearing one of my Ripe dresses a couple of months after having my first, and I looked like I was very pregnant all over again. I also agree with PP's re altering, I just don't think that this one would work. I think you should try it on before buying it, to see if it works.

I agree it's a lovely dress, so I understand liking it! I'm not sure which aspect of the dress is your favourite - colour, beading, cut, etc, but you might find something that will work better. Some possible random alternatives:

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't planning on altering for breastfeeding, just to suit a non pregnant belly. I could just buy it and return it if is doesn't look right, I'll just say it doesn't fit properly. I could just get credit and get some of their nursing tops.

Thanks for the alternate suggestions noi'mnot, I actually looked at the Sass prepy one at Myer the other day, it's cute but I don't think the style of the little collar will be in for too longhand at 39 I may be a bit old for that look.

I have a maternity dress that I really like and was my favourite when I was pregnant. I think that all I need to do to that is to raise the hem of the front part because it hangs lower than the back now that I don't have a belly to hold it out. The one in my link would be harder if not impossible. Why can't they just show her from different angles, I'm sure that actual pregnant women would like to know what it looks like too.
