I'm due in Feb with #3 (I already have a just-3 year old and a 15 month old). We are also about to start renovating our house, which involves adding another bedroom, bathroom and laundry...there are some internal changes too. We aren't changing the front two bedrooms, bathroom or living room right away.
I'm concerned about the disruption and noise - but don't really know what to expect as I have no experience with renovations. We are due to commence the reno at almost exactly the same time as baby is due. Do you think we would be better off waiting until mid 2013 so that the baby will be a few months old? Or do you think it would be easier to just get it over and done with? Hoping some of you that have experience renovating can offer some advice! Thanks |

QUOTE Do you think we would be better off waiting until mid 2013 so that the baby will be a few months old? Or do you think it would be easier to just get it over and done with? Do it NOW or ASAP. You don't want to deal with a baby and the filth (unhealthy) and the noise! When DS1 was born, the houses in front of us, they started one after the other were doing renovations. There was CONSTANT noise everyday. As soon as DS1 would go to sleep, the grinder will go off and wake him up! Do it while the baby is on board. But seriously, I would move out if I could. How long will it take? |

We did one Reno while DS was a newborn, and he slept through the whole lot! Including the bathroom next to his room! The next Reno with him as a toddler was harder though in terms of keeping him safe from mess and noise etc. I would go with the newborn stage anyday, but that being said I've refused to do another Reno when this new bub is born, but that's to do with time that DH wouldnt be able to help me as he'd be on the tools!

I say just do it too. It is funny what you will deal with when you have no other choice. Once it is done, it is done and the benefits are too good to think about the difficulty of living around a reno for a few months. We gutted our whole place and I did move into my mums house until our bathroom was put in but lived for a month with no kitchen at all while the joiners had a break after new years. That was an interesting experience. My daughter at 3 tried a LOT of different cuisines lol I welcomed the noise when they finally came back to finish things!
