Hello all,

Just a quick one. Would appreciate your opinion on Sydney as a baby girl name. We love the name and it suits our surname/ticks all other boxes.
However, we live in Sydney....... do you see this as an issue????

Thanks so much, appreciate all opinions

Sydney will always seem like an old man's name to me but that may not be an issue to a younger generation that do not have older relatives called Sid.

I really like the name Sydney for a girl (rather than as a boy's name). As a girl's name it ticks all my qualities in a name; slightly unusual, people know how to spell it, classy sounding....

I know an elderly man called Sydney but no one has ever called him the full name as it's always Sid so no longer is he associated with the name Sydney in my mind.

Whilst at present it may be slightly awkward being in the same city with the same name - she/your family may not always live there. And anyway I'm sure people would very quickly get over any issues with same city/same name.

I really like Sydney for a girls name, DH and I have talked about is as an option a couple of times. It's certainly a popular name in the States.

That said, agree its a little too much having the name Sydney and living in Sydney.

Our 2.5 year old daughter is Sydney. It suits her.
We often call her Nee/Nee-nee.

I love Sydney for a girl. I wouldn't worry at all about living in Sydney if I liked the name.

Love it.
I think Sidney is more masculine.

Living in Sydney, don't see it as an issue.
