We're heading to gold coast mid feb and was looking at staying somewhere not too busy and with a great beach. And with some nice cafes restaurants not too far
Had in mind Miami beach, burleigh. Palm beach. Any thoughts on these areas. We will have a car thanks This post has been edited by bloodorange: 07/11/2012, 11:03 PM |

Broadbeach, Burliegh, Kirra, and around Coolangatta are my faves. Broadbeach and Burleigh are both a little busier than my other two faves, but also more cafes etc. Kirra is an awesome family friendly beach and also has a pizza hut dine in restaurant on the beach front. Anywhere but surfers, which is crazy busy and packed out and very touristy.

Burleigh and Palm Beach are lovely, as is Currumbin (just south of Palm Beach). The Gold Coast highway runs a couple of blocks away from the beach here and there are great headlands and lovely beaches. Still plenty of restaurants within walking distance on the main strip but the opportunity for a quieter holiday beachside. Further north (Broadbeach, Surfers) are very busy and noisy and Surfers Paradise in particular has a lot of nightclubs and the associated sleazy night life that goes along with it. The beach is also busier and not as picturesque as it's narrow and straight. I'm not a fan of Mermaid, but all the areas south are just beautiful.

Depends what do you want from the beach? Surfing etc for adults and older kids? A splash area for little ones? A beach is not just a beach!
I like coolangatta. Around the corner is kirra, for surfing etc, or a bit further a walk, d'bah. Greenmount and rainbow bay for a protected beach for little ones to play and paddle in. Coolangatta has fantastic cafes and restaurants, movies, supermarkets, and massive variety of accommodation. End of february they have the quicksilver pro too. |

I love currumbin, palm beach or burleigh. I am biased though, because I grew up at currumbin and we used to swim in the estuary all the time. Did nippers/nipperettes at currumbin. Dad used to go rock fishing at currumbin or take the boat out.

I vote for Burleigh, or Currumbin, beautiful beaches, nice cafe's etc and not too over crowded .

Any of those will be fine, although at the moment there isn't too much beach around Miami at high tide - we have had huge problems with errosion over winter this year.
