Ok, the new road rules came in on 1 Nov. If I wanted to speak on my mobile before (while driving). i would call and put the sound on speaker. The new rules say the phone must be "fixed" to the car. so you don't need to "touch" the phone. Any ideas? Also we have lost the bit of our GPS that attaches to the car and this must also be "fixed" - I was going to use bluetac, but the rules say it needs to be a commercially produced fixture.

Thanks!

I have a thingy that attaches to my visor. You can all numbers with voice dial and answer and hang up with either voice dial or there is a button on it. It also acts as a speaker to play music from your phone.

It works really well. I don't know what it is called though. Not particuarly helpful. My phone isn't 'fixed' anywhere, but you don't need to touch the phone to make/answer phone calls.

I would say just don't talk on the phone while driving.

If you really feel you must though does your phone have that voice recognition 'Call Beverly' and it dials for you?

I don't, I've seen dangerous driving even with attachments..

I ignore it if it rings, they can leave a message.

I have a cradle that attaches to the air vents it's only a cheapie from Supercheap but it works ok. In the car I am currently using I have it hooked up to a blueant speaker which clips on the visor of my car. It is connected through bluetooth. In my other car my phone connects through the car stereo again using bluetooth and is voice activated.

Bluetooth - Earpiece or attached to the stereo.

New cars, you sync the phone to your car with bluetooth. When the phone rings, stereo cuts out and you hit a button on the dash to answer.

Don't know how well other accessories work.

DH works as Driver and loves the earpiece. Keeps the phone in his pocket and just gives voice command to answer.

As pp said, if you can't answer, don't! They can leave a msg or call back. Even with Bluetooth in the car, hairy traffic, I ignore the call and check call log when I've pulled over.

Also, not sure on definition of new law but I think you have to pull over out of traffic and take keys out of ignition, if somebody could clarify. Keys still in ignition, you can get booked.

blue tooth and a phone craddle (I think you need to have a phone craddel or something)

I honestly don't see the difference between talking on blue tooth and talking to the person next me, actually I have my eyes on the road more if I am on blue tooth then talking to the person next to me as I will occassionally turn to look at the person. I will also take my eyes off the road to fix my air conditioner/heater temp, and to check on any kids in the back. Should we ban kids in the car as well - they are most distracting!

ETA: and yes you have to physically take your keys out of the ignitition when you pull over original.gif it is the same with drink driving, you just can't be chilling in your car with the heater or music on with keys in and in the drivers seat but being over .05

Give me my coffee and no one gets hurt!!!
I have bluetooth in my car so I can answer the phone without actually touching it - but it doesn't sync with my phone's address book, so if I needed to make a call, I would physically have to touch the phone. This is now illegal as it is not 'fixed' to the car. Doesn't phase me as I leave my phone in my purse.
