Hi, I need to have my 12 wk scan in a few weeks and I read somewhere on EB that this scan is free for over 35's because we're classed as high risk. I rang Canberra Imaging earlier today and they said that it's $350 regardless of my age because they're a private company.

Does anyone know if there's a place in Canberra that will bulk bill this scan and the blood test? We've paid for it for my first three pregnancies but if there's a chance to avoid it this time around that would be great

U/s, the phillip medical centre is only $150 (and you get roughly $60 back), plus they bulk bill the bloods (there was a few threads about this 9-ish weeks ago if you do a search, someone did a price comparison)

Thanks Livvie and Canberra Chick. I've booked myself in at Phillip Medical Centre, the lady I spoke to said I didn't need to do a water prep either (Canberra Imaging said I did) so it will be a much more pleasurable experience

This may be a silly question but every time I ask for a referral I get a canberra imaging one from my doc. Do I need to ask for a phillip medical centre referral? Do I need a referral at all? Sorry for the silly question.

i'm fairly sure Phillip takes any referral, but i'd give them a quick call to check (i've been seeing a doctor at ginninderra clinic, so all my referrals ARE phillip ones. but i had an xray to have done last year, and was told i could take it there no matter where it was for).

Butterby, i'm having my 20 week at the ginninderra clinic (same as Phillip), and all i've been told is to have a full bladder, no 'drink this then wait'. so much nicer than the other way

Hbbear, Livvie is right I just phoned them to double check (I wasn't sure myself) and the lady I spoke to said a referral for Canberra Imaging is fine

Livvie it's crazy that Canberra Imaging always insist on a water prep, every single time I've had to do it the Sonographer has commented on how full my bladder is and they've asked me to go and empty half my bladder (by peeing in a plastic cup) - it's tricky to stop in time!

there is a reason for it (i only found out with DD, though). some women are seriously dehydrated, and by telling them to drink XYZ amount of water (i've had to drink anything from 500ml to 1L in the past), they are going to have fluid in their bladders etc (hence the drink normally/have a full bladder warnings, but so much easier to not have the full on amount/holding to do).

This should probably be a separate topic, but I thought I'd try in this thread first. I had my last scan at capital imaging, they were fantastic, but it was just a little early for a heartbeat (measured 5w6d). They suggested I come back in around 2 weeks if I wanted to see a heartbeat. I'm fairly anxious about this pregnancy as I've previously had a m/c, so I am keen to go back at 8 weeks.

I know that there's been discussion on Phillip Medical Centre being cheaper, but one of the things I liked about Capital Imaging was that they put all the scans online and you can log-on and see them any time. Does anyone know if Philip Medical Centre also provides this service?
