Hi all
Just wondering how I would know if I had a prolapse? I have had 5 vaginal births and things don't seem normal down there. The ob has never said anything and I even asked her after baby number 3 and she gave me a half hearted answer. Thanks |

I suffered moderate prolapses after having both my girls (runs in my family sadly) and for me I felt a heavy pressure when going to the toilet and it stayed there. Because mine was so moderate i could not ignore it and so my obs checked it out and he felt a definite bulge. (Ended up being my bladder prolapsing) So I ended up having 18 weeks physio after both births.
If you are concerned get a 2nd opinion Good luck |

did you find the physio worked..and you dont need to result in any form of surgery? this was my first baby. he is now 16 weeks, and i have just noticed over the last week something has changed... off to the docs /ob/ physio i go.. |

Baby no 2 and the MHN and hospital referred me to a physio to repair weak pelvic floor. Physio is excellent. She has ruled out most forms of exercise such as running, sit ups, weights etc to prevent prolapse and I'm focusing on doing longer pelvic floor contractions after she checked I was contracting as opposed to bulging which can do more damage. I'm doing fortnightly visits for 6 months. I suggest getting onto it early. I wish I had of after bub #1.

Hi 5andfinished,
I think you would know if you had a prolapse. I have had a stage two bladder prolapse between DD and DS1. I'm now 28wks pregnant with DS2 and suffered a fairly severe cervical/uterine prolapse at 14wks-my cervix literally fell out of my vagina, protruding about 2cm out of the body. Needless to say, I could definitely feel it- it was not painful, although very uncomfortable. This is apparently very rare during a pregnancy, but common flter childbirth.Any changes that you notice in your pelvic/genital region should always be thoroughly checked, as prolapses can often protrude and then recede, up and down, over time. I would suggest making time to see your on/gyn.I too had months of intense gyno physio after DS1 was born, and it improved the bladder situation, stopping my frequent issues with incontinence. Unfortunately due to my current uterine prolapse, I am being advised by a number of gyno's to have a hysterectomy in the next couple of years, as repairs would be temporary at best, useless at worst, in my situation. This is ok in the sense that I didn't want any more kids, but at 38 to be facing the prospect of early menopause, is daunting. It has made this current pregnancy risky, I can't exercise, lift heavy weight, stand for long periods etc, whic is challenging with a toddler and full time teaching job. But, we all make adjustments.... Good luck, I hope you have some resolution. Get it checked!! Don't be afraid to ask question, do your own research, get more than one opinion. |
