So is sushi the new gifted? Is it the new brag point for parents? Instead of "oh my kid could do advanced calculus at 6 months" is the preferred parental brag these days "Oh MY child prefers sushi to Maccas."

Are there other new brags I should be aware of?

oooo I so hope it is!

I usually get anywhere from weird looks to death stares when sharing a sushi roll with DS (16months) when we're out and about.

Please please please let it mean that he is more brilliant than brilliance itself rolleyes.gif

Parents have bragged about mature palates for years.

My daughter loves sushi, but LOVES a cheeseburger. She's very blonde - so we don't hold much hope for her, anyway.

Lol. Yes, sushi...and hummus, in my experience, eg

"I just give DS a Vegemite sandwich in his lunch box"

"Oh no, that's not very good for them. Mine just love home made hummus with julienned carrots, sliced snow peas and any other organically grown vegetables you may have to hand ..."

Righto.

Edited because I haven't had my coffee yet and am clearly not making sense ...

As a mother of a fussy eater, I would be bragging about it too.

Don't lose hope yet maybe she will have to wear glasses and EVERYBODY knows glasses brings out the smarts!

I think people want to be seen as good parents by others, I think it's natural that parents want to tell/show others what great parents they are - what is a better reflection of parenting than a toddler who picks "health food" as their treat?

Our boys are adventurous eaters, they have little choice as we are raising them in China and sometimes the only option is something "weird" BUT put a Californian Roll and a Happy Meal in front of them and I can almost guarantee they will go for the Happy Meal.
