Hi All
Just wondering if there are any other mummys-to-be due in May 2013 that live in Brisbane.
Would be great to keep in touch and maybe start a mummy's group once bub's are born bbabyflip.gif
Also would be good to chat aboit Brisbane specific stuff - e.g. which hospital you are all planning on using and doctors etc. And any advice about child care centres etc.
Would love to hear from you. rolleyes.gif
Cheers,
Jac

I'm in Brisbane - Petrie... waaaaay out on the northside.
We'll be delivering at Caboolture again. I had reasonably good care there apart from BF'ing help which I will be more pushy about this time original.gif and one awful midwife who seemed to think i was very inconvenient to be there when we first arrived. She pretty much ignored us for 5 hours unitl our actual midwife arrived and broke my waters and got things moving!!! Anyway... parking is free and it's the fastest for us to get to - 15-20 up the highway original.gif
We have one DS already (19 months) who is in DC Mon-Tues then at Grandparents Wed-Thurs and home with me Fridays.

How about you?

hi im out ipswich way. i will be having this bub at ipswich public again as thats where i had my first. its a good ward the midwives are very supportive of bf and it also turns out i work in the hospital as well, so they all know me and have all my records too. im hoping to get on the midwifery progra they offer there but have to see who is available. i had a very long and traumatic birth the first time so am thinking about a c-section this time. where abouts in brissy are you op.

Hi to you both :-)We live in Camp Hill (near Coorparoo) south east Brisbane. This will (hopefully) be our first baby. We did get pregnant earlier in the year but had a mmc at 6.5 weeks. So fingers crossed this one is forming nicely! original.gif
We added maternity to our private health fund in mid June thinking it would take a while to get pregnant again and by that time we would work in with the wait period (can't give birth until 1 yr after adding maternity). We will miss out my one month!!! But anyway we are kinda happy after hearing all the EXTRA cost when going private.
So we live close to Mater Mothers and thinking of that with shared care from my GP who specializes in women's health. Have you guys heard good or bad about mater mothers? Have you done shared care?? Also haven't been to doc yet but when can u first hear a heartbeat? Because of last time I am very anxious to do this.
You two are the experienced ones so would love to get your advice!!! biggrin.gif Hope you are feeling well xxx

I think with my first we saw the heartbeat around 7 weeks. We had a scan before that and could see the sac but not the heartbeat... we went back 10 days later and could see it. Amazing how quickly things change with them original.gif I'm a bit stressed out this time as I had a dating scan last Friday and was too small to give due date. My GP convinced me we don't need to do another one for dating - the scan this time said I must be jsut under 5 weeks so we're going with the kind of dates I gave her originally based on my LMP and length of cycle. So I've booked in for my 12 week scan on the 26th of October and have to wait until then. I told her I was nervous about not having seen the heartbeat yet... I shoudl have insisted I wanted to go again next week for a scan. Oh well.
I did do shared care last time but it didn't mean much - Caboolture have been in a long process of setting up for shared care - basically it's stuck in legal. I think you're supposed to get a book and you take it to each appointment and they fill it out so it's kinda shared between the hospital and your GP. Well the hospital neevr paid any attention to the fact I was seeing my GP at ALL! They always scheduled my appointments like they were the only people I was seeing and just toally ignored me repeatedly saying "I am seeing my GP". But then we had high risk 12 week results so I think they stamped my file 'high risk' and followed that course of appointments the rest of the time for no f'ing reason. Anyway... I found my GP much better than them. She always measured me, weighed me, checked out my pee, blood pressure etc. And she actually gave a crap about how I was doing. This time I have a new GP... simply because it's easier for us all to go to the same clinic. I'm not sure how I feel about this new one yet. I think I prefer my old one but not sure I can be bothered changing. My dietician is also at the new clinic although she already sh*t me off too. Trying to tell me because I don't eat red meat i HAVE to take iron. I was vegetarian for years and haven't eaten red meat since my teens and NEVER had a problem. If they find one I will take something but otherwise no thanks - why they force un-needed iron on pregannt women to constipate them even more is beyond me. So I need to make sure I have vitamin C with each meal to maximise my iron absorbtion.... and drink milo as it's full of iron original.gif See how I go with that but my levels are also fine without.
I have heard very good things about the Mater - everyone wants to go there original.gif

Sorry to hear about you birth menmyboy sad.gif I had my gall bladder out when I was 17 weeks with DS and the recovery was pretty horrible. I was determined not to have a CS after that. And that was only keyhole so I can only imagine how hard it is to recover from a CS. But I understand wanting to avoid the same thing happenning again. I thought I was having braxton hicks for a few days - then found out DS was facing the wrong way (head down by face up instead of face down). so actually he was trying to get labour going. After three days I was due to be induced (my waters were leaking by then) but labour was pretty strong the night before so we went up early. They pretty much ignored me until my scheduled midwife arrived so we may as well have just truned up in the mornign as planned. She broke my waters and told me to labour on all fours so he woudl turn over. He was born about 5 hours after she broke my waters. I had gas but the back pain I was having from him facing the wrong way was shocking - so painful. i couldn't even feel contractions in my belly, only my back. So I ended up having an epidural and it wasn't so bad. I thought I would be stuck in bed and wanted to avoid that but I still had some movement in my legs so I was able to get up on all fours and change positions. I had bi-lateral labial grazes but no tearing. The grazes they said was from him throwing his arm out next to his face, lol, like superman.

Hi ladies!

I may be jumping the gun a little here but 3 different HPT's all showing BFP.gif this morning give me reason to believe I'll be due in May with our first! biggrin.gif I'm bursting to tell someone about it but DH works away and I'd really rather confirm with the Doc first and then tell him in person. I've only been off the pill for a couple of months and I really wasn't expecting it to happen so quickly! I can't even explain why I did a test this morning, I haven't really had any symptoms to speak of, I just kinda 'knew' wacko.gif

I live in the Caboolture area and work in East Brisbane and I think I will definately need some local advice about all this baby stuff (even though right now I keep looking at the HPT to make sure I'm not dreaming lol)!

Hi Ladies

I am based in Cannon Hill and this will be my first. I got lucky that I added pregnancy to private health insurance in time for this, so I will be going to Mater Mothers Private. I have got my confirmation of book in yesterday. I am fairly excited.

I am going for my first scan on Monday and therefore I so very excited.

sarkazam76 sounds like you are really having fun with it at the moment, hope you get the dietician sorted.

Jac5512 I too would like to know more about mater mothers and others experiences...

Great to hear from you all!

Mrs Tee - congrats!!!! Sounds like you are definitely pregnant! Three tests showing BFP.... i hear it is very unusual to get a false positive (but not so unusual to get a false negative). So tell DH the exciting news I reckon!!! biggrin.gif

Menmyboy - so sorry to hear about your first birth. When I hear friends stories about terrible births (with lots of tearing etc) it makes me wonder about elective CS's. Also I work as a lawyer and have acted in some med neg cases and have seem some pretty horrid birthing complications for mum and baby. One word of the wise guys - don't get the suction or forceps. It can cause drastic probs for baby. So yeah I am a bit paranoid after hearing alot of stuff. But can only really put trust in the ones who are caring for you I suppose. unsure.gif

Sarkasm76 - thanks for sharing your experiences with "shared care".... will have to ask my doctor a bit more about how it is supposed to work with the mater. And yes, keep that dietician in line wink.gif

Waiteduntilnow - welcome!! You and I are neighbours original.gif When are you due? Do you work? Are you looking at any child care centres?

BTW - when is everybody due??

cheers,

Jac

Hey K's mum I do have something I'm wondering about....

So if I go back to working on Fridays (haven't done so since going back to work after having Zach), starting in October, I will earn approx $6k more by the end of April - money that i can put away for next materntiy leave, it's a bit over 2 mortagage repayments. If you were me where would you put Zach? Right now he goes daycare, daycare, grandmas, grandmas, home with me, weekend. Not sure I want him going DC DC/ GM GM/ DC but GM cannot change her days. SO instead of DC was thinking of looking for family day care but then I worry about what that will be like for him too - how do you know they are legit and being good to your kids without the security of it being in a centre? I am keen to give him lots of different experiences so it would be good that way.... but taking him to DC would be much easier. Any thoughts that migth help me decide? I feel like a good FDC would be a great environment for him and gives hiim a range of experiences from just doing groudhog day at the centre. And not sure how he would do going back there after 2 days off.

I think I'm due about the 11th but won't know for sure until 12 week NT scan as my first scan was too early.

Congrats mrs_tee - so you will be delivering at Caboolture I take it? We might be there together biggrin.gif They do a tour there, used to be every Sunday, worth doing to check it out. When we did it I was the only one not showing, lol - wanted to check it out before committing to it! And the classes were well worth going to as well. Except the physio one which was a waste of time!!!
