One of the girls in my MG has one and puts it on her son's ankle at night and then puts him in a sleeping bag if your concern is about sleep and safety. FWIW, it has made no difference because he has had horrible teething pain and has also had a few colds/fever/throat infection etc and it has given him no relief whatsoever...

I'm a non-believer in the magical properties of amber beads I'm afraid. The jellystone necklaces for Mums seem to make more sense to me as it's actually something to chew on. I haven't really looked into them yet though so not sure of their safety etc.

They don't chew on the amber.

So they just absorb the aura? Seriously? What was that I heard about a fool and his money being parted?

The mining of Baltic amber also causes significant environmental damage to the Baltic Sea. So even if it's a placebo or confirmation bias effect, it comes at a cost.

This is the kicker for me, and the strangulation risk obviously. But then I'm one of those people that thinks 'teething' is too often spouted as being the reason for normal baby stuff.

'Teething' never bothered DD more than a few days of sore gums and DS has his bottom teeth coming through now and it doesn't seem to be bothering him.

If you know nothing about them, don't comment.

And you don't know anything about me or my background.

I was a sceptic but was given one as a gift that cost only $25. at a market. I tried it and it has really made a difference, especially to the amount of drool that was giving her a nasty rash on her face and neck. I take it off at night and can notice the difference in her without it within 20 minutes if she's teething at that time. Bubs is now 7 months so have been using it for 3 months. I know adults and older children that wear them and swear by them too.

This was me.

I bought one to prove to someone that they were snake oil. Stopped using nurofen from then on. Previously, my dd would scream and bang her head on the floor until the nurofen took effect. My dd is now 6 and still insists on wearing one. She says that her legs don't hurt as much in the night when she wears it. I think she is onto her 3rd or 4th one now.

Why do so many women believe in pseudoscience?

The makers of these necklaces are laughing their way to the bank at how gullible you are. Please don't waste your money.

PS> do you want some cure-all snake oil?

Someone sent me one as a gift. I don't think it's really made all that much difference, I still should buy shares in a pharmaceutical company with the amount of paracetamol and ibuprofen DS goes through when teeth are coming. The necklace is cute though, and I figure it can't really make it any blimmin' worse, so I put it on during the day.

For those who say "teething" doesn't really cause that many problems, I say I'm happy for you. I really am. I wouldn't wish that feeling of helplessness as you sit and hold your baby while he cries in his sleep from pain even after the max dose of painkillers on anyone.
