My DD2 is just starting to cut teeth and my Mum told me about a mother who has three kids and swears by Amber teething necklaces. This is the first I have heard about them. I have done a little googling but what I am nervous about the most is sleeping with them.

Can people tell me more about them? I believe the lighter the colour the better?

Not sure if I will purchase so need some advice from those who have tried.

Ethan has one. i believe its amazing. he is a lot calmer and not so grizzly. i dunno if its the necklace or not, but i like to believe it is. he does not sleep with it on though. bit to risky for my liking. he used to, then one night i randomly freaked out and started taking it off before bed.

Hey there...color has nothing to do with the effectiveness....just make sure it is genuine Baltic amber ( the real company's are part of the " amber association" or something like that.

My DD has one, and we swear by it......will never ever take it off her....at night I wrap it around her ankle ( she calls it her bling)......

We got ours and other friend from....amberbebe.com

Some interesting information to read if you're deciding whether they would be worth trying

They are the most illogical thing, seriously purchasing one makes no sense! Let's look at it:

There is no evidence that they work. Zip, nada, zilch. People say they work - ever heard of confirmation bias? People believe in crystals too.

They say that a "natural anesthetic" (unspecified) is released from amber in the form of an oil. Well if it is then I bet the process of making it into beads has destroyed whatever natural oils were in it in the first place, or at least sealed the surface. The beads do not feel oily. There is no evidence of the "natural anesthetic" presence.

Let's assume for one second that there is some "natural anesthetic" released from amber necklaces. If so, it is completely untested and unregulated. There are no controls in place to determine dosage etc. Just because something is "natural" doesn't make it safe - opium is natural, you wouldn't see me giving it to my kids.

Don't waste your money, it's a gimmick.

The above is what I thought until we tried it.........but mind you some people don't believe "teething" causes bad nappy rash/ fevers/ and irritability .........each to their own

DD (20 months) has one and wears it 24/7. She is currently cutting her eye teeth and hasn't made a peep. They may be a gimmick, but why take it off just to see if there is a difference if it's causing no harm.

Agree with Tesseract. I thought most people new by now they are just another money maker.
I've had a lot, adult ones too - I think they are crap - may as well go to cheap as chips and buy a $2 plastic one.

ETA - dont buy them 2ndhand - even on the actual sites that sell them they tell you they only last for 6 months or so before they lose any effect they "may" have had.

They don't chew on the amber.
