Ebay have Thermomix's for a steal, shipping from Spain to Australia.

WDYT?

I understand I won't get demonstrations but it says it comes with the warranty. Seems authentic to me.

Why call it "common" sense when it is so rare?
My understanding is that Thermomix is only sold by direct sales agents -- not sold online or in any stores.

That is in Australia. At the demo I went to the salesperson was very clear in explaining that yes, you could get it os but there is no support, demos etc in an attempt to keep you away from this option. So I suppose you just got to take the risk that you lose out if it breaks down (I am not sure I would getting my hopes up about a spanish warranty).

They are shipped with a Spanish warranty which is useless to you here as the Australian franchise do not honour it. If you have a problem, you have to ship it back to Spain which would not be cheap.

The demo is neither here or there as there are so many vids on youtube, you don't really need a demo. It's the aftersales service you are taking a risk on. Most people are fine but if you do have a problem?

Also check very carefully you are being shipped a current TMX. There are dodgy traders on ebay with TMX.

But for like $600-$700 even with postage back to Spain a few times, you'd still be on top.

Hmmm, a risk, for sure, but I'm wondering if it's worth it. $1,800 is a lot of money.

Have you checked the feedback? Are they a known seller of this item? Do you need some sort of converter to use it?

One scam that goes around on Ebay is to have real accounts hijacked. So you can sometimes tell where they're suddenly selling lots of watches or computers or something, but previously (and often quite a while before) they sold little things like books and preloved toys.

Another scam is where they sell a high priced item and take your payment and run.

You have to be very wary of these sorts of things, on top of whether or not the item is genuine, and whether you have any protection or not.

Have you been to a demonstration Op?

I was at one this past month, and while it looks amazing, I can't justify the price especially when everywhere else in the world it appears to be cheaper.

I feel if it was worth $2k it would be worth that everywhere. Geography shouldn't dictate the price.

So I'm not getting one simply on principle. LOL.

ETA: I wish they had a rental program as I would like to try one for a month to see if it would work for my family first before committing to it!

Maple, you're so right and that's why I haven't bought one yet. But there is SO much it would do for us.

I'm currently struggling to make food regularly, as in healthy food, and there are other new appliances I'm tossing up between replacing. So I'm really debating if it's worthwhile getting. I have another baby due too, so it will really help make cooking easy for DH, given he is quite handicapped in the kitchen.

I'm biased, but have you ever looked at a Vitamix? It depends what you're hoping to do with a Thermomix, but perhaps the Vitamix would be helpful. I love mine, it does a lot of things very well.
