Hi there
Bubba is just over six months and seems to be getting a bit frustrated I think...cue back arching and some crying when going nowhere. She can roll, front to back and back to front, in general she can get from A to B through rolling and 'sliding' I think - not at the actual crawling stage yet. Was thinking of getting a walker as she seems very happy when standing (we hold her hands and she supports herself whilst we do this) and sitting upright. She also does a lot of bouncing. What are your thoughts, what did you do? Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks BabyLemon |

hi op.. i know jolly jumpers only go up to a certain weight...9but can't remember what it was..) would she still fit in one of those? you could get one of those dance mats that go under it? for our dd when she was learning to walk ( 11 months, so a bit older, but still) we got her one of those toy pram walking aides( she pushes and walks along...)and she loved it.. maybe your dd could just use it to stand with? just a couple of ideas, anyway. have fun, its an exciting time

I have heard that those baby walkers are not encouraged when your baby is only six months of age. Something to do with the legs not being ready for walking yet. Perhaps someone else will know on this forum.

I wouldn't use a walker. I've heard too many bad things about them(falling down stairs, not supporting a baby properly), but a Jolly Jumper for a few minutes every few days might be a good idea.

I wouldn't bother with the walker. she won't be tall enough for it. she'll learn faster getting around on the floor. in due time she'll stand. She needs to learn patience!

She needs to learn how to do things for herself, which a walker doesn't really do I think. It puts them in the position and leaves them there. She can learn how to pull herself up to stand without a walker. Frustration is a very good motivator after all.

I know physios HATE walkers and jumpers as they can cause all sorts of problems for babies in terms of crawling and walking.

DS went through the frustration stage as well - around about the same age, just before he started sitting up on his own then crawling. I didn't really put him in anything, just got down and played with him as much as I could, which seemed to help lessen the frustration a bit.
He eventually mastered both sitting and crawling, although there was much face grinding and carpet burn while he was figuring it out |

6 months is FAR to young to be encouraging your baby stand IMO.
Their legs are really not strong enough, they are still at that 'bandy' stage. To be honest i think you could do your baby more harm than good. Like a pp said its the frustration that motivates them to learn to move - roll, crawl etc. you can't rush this process, it's all part of learning (and the fun!) |

OP, be guided by your child. Legs not ready - bah. A minority of babies walk really early - a girl at my sons childcare was walking (unaided!) at 7 months! As for going down the stairs etc - that's what parental supervision is for! Can you borrow any of these things from a friend to see if your child likes it? Before spending the money?
