Oh and also I used the hug-a-bub wrap. Much more comfortable then the usual carriers. (well for me anyway!)

Hi OP

I feel your pain!! Both of my kids hated the pram and car seat. They would scream as soon as I put them in and would not stop until they were out. Both my kids had reflux so that may have something to do with it. DS grew out of it at about 7 months. DD is now 7 months and showing no signs of improvement.

I manage by minimising/avoiding car trips where possible and using a baby carrier when going out/shopping etc. I am sooooo envious of all those mothers whose babies snooze away in the pram while they go or a walk or go shopping! It's probably just a phase OP, a frustrating one though!

I feel for you DD2 was like that in the car and it was awful. The only thing that helped us was when she was old enough (6-7 months) giving her snacks in the car and you are a way off that.

I tried everything and nothing worked except trying not to travel long distances (easier to do here in Canberra)

If this is your only child buy an Ergo or sling and occassionally use Public transport.

FWIW DD2 is now 3 and suffers car sickness on trips longer than 30mins she also has ear problems/glue ear (which we are having fixed) so I think that affects her too

Yup my DS1 was the same, DS2 while I wouldn't say he totally loves the pram (I still keep a sling as back-up), he is much more happy to go in it that DS1 who screamed the second he was put down. So be reassured it's probably nothing that you are doing wrong original.gif

A good sling or baby carrier is your friend original.gif head over to the buying for baby section to get some tips?

Also with DS1 I used public transport a lot as I could just keep him sleeping or happy in his sling on the bus or train.

My DS also went through this stage. I found singing to him in the car helped a bit. I learned to drag out Old McDonald for a good 10-15 mins.

The thing that helped the most was putting him in a forward facing seat but you've got a long time to go before you do that.

Good luck.
Ros

With dd, she screamed in the pram and the car from about 3 months onward and never slept in the pram after that, she did have reflux at the time (treated) so I wonder if that was making it difficult, I had a pram that faced outwards so I wonder if she had problems not being able to see me.
Also she has suffered from motion sickness, that was quite a problem in the car.
Who knows, it may have been a combination of things including being a baby!
I couldn't carry her for long as I had major back problems so it was nightmare time, I ended up quite house bound and isolated.
I really think a sling would have helped but I didn't do it because of my back. I regret not holding her more.

Feel your pain from here! Mine is 8 months and still hates a pram for longer than 10 mins - he likes to be held. Till 4 months we used a hug a bub and now the ergo.
Re the car, he just hated it from birth but is getting a tad better. I think it's a combo of he knows I am there now, plus he is now in a super comfy convertible instead of capsule, and he is just more settled these days.
No answer re the car seat except have someone in the back where possible, if it's a longer trip aim for nap time so they can snooze..... Other than that I am afraid you just need to wait it out.

My DD hated the car and pram too! I found if I laid her down in the pram she'd scream so I properties ed a few blankets and a pillow behind her so she could kind of sit up and look around and she loved it. As soon as she had good head control I got rid of the bassinet and changed the capsule to car seat, no more problems.

DS1 hated the pram. We ended up borrowing a convertible pram from a friend and turns out he liked facing us, but hating facing away. So we ended up buying one.
I also used the ergo which he loved.
