When I was a breastfed baby - way, way, way back... I was in hospital as I had pnumonia - poor Mum got a frantic call from the nurses in the children's ward that she needed to come back to the hospital as they couldn't get the baby to drink..

Mum walked in and they said "Poor wee mite won't touch her bottle we are worried she'll get dehydrated.."

Mum had to explain that I didn't know what the bottle was (apparently I WAS playing with it, just not drinking out of it!)

After she gave me a feed Mum whipped out a fine bone china cup from where she had carefully wrapped it and placed it in her handbag..

I was (and still am) a very sensitive little thing, if I couldn't have the feel of a lovely breast to deliver my milk then it had to come from fine and delicate china... not plastic, not rubber... a fine bone china cup with a delicate thin rim.

Luckily for me and Mum this was a small country hospital - the nursing staff knew me, knew Mum and could accommodate my refined sensibilities!

Then poor Mum could go home and get some sleep!

Hope you get something figured out! I was very lucky in that DD gave up night feeds quite early and it makes life so much simpler. Not sure what I would do if she had a late feed to contend with

If I come up with any brilliant ideas or remember anything else I will let you know though. Best of luck xx

Hi OP,

Just to let you know that if you're still keen on the old magmag spout/straw cup they're still available online through made4maternity which is affiliated with Pigeon in Australia:

http://www.madeformaternity.com.au/magmag-straw-cup/

The old cups are on sale at the moment for $7.50 plus post & the spout top is an extra $5 if you'd like to get them too...

I got mine from this site 4 months ago and I have to say I'm glad I did as I was also having the same problems as you. My DD who is now 9 months happily interchange between cup, spout cup, straw and even the odd plastic water bottle every now & then which makes our outing much much easier!!!

So do try everything one small step at a time and who knows - one day she might actually decide that she likes all of them biggrin.gif

Nikki- we had the old style straw cup too and then bought a new one and had the same problem - they have added a non-spill valve to the top of the straw which meant DD was having problems using it. I got a pair of scissors and cut the top valve bit off and now she can use it just fine original.gif

Hilarious - that's one I've not heard before. Unfortunately I don't own any fine bone china to try it out!

Petit mode - thanks for the tip on the old magmag cups, I will check out the link. I much prefer the old ones. Hopefully before long I'll have a DD who is as flexible as yours and drink out of everything!

Flipped out - why didn't I think of that? Good tip, cut the end off today and it works a treat, well for me anyway biggrin.gif . Now to try on DD.

thanks again!

At 7 months, you can just give water and EMB/formula hidden in solids, such as cereal with milk, or banana/pear blended with milk..

My fully bf boy took to all manners of sippy cups and normal cups - alas, he would only drink water! He screams when it's anything else! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

But would eat, and actually slurp from a bowl.

Cups I tried are Nuby (Nubi?), they have soft spout, a bit like a teat. He loves it.
