Hi all original.gif
My name is cat... my DD just got diagnosed with gluten intolerence. DR also recommended DS go GF as she suspects he has it too from his symptoms.

Both kids were checked to CD but got negative results. (several times in DD's case)

Went to a new Dr who did a blood test that checks for all intolerences (so no need for elimination diets) and she was able to tell us that DD reacted really strongly to gluten. DD has had symptoms since she was 2 ( now 3.5). we were told she had reflux and already had lactose intol. now we have been told she doesn't have either of these!

We are slowly getting used to all the GF changes we have had to make. I was reading the previous chat thread about seperate toasters etc. does this apply to gluten intol as well?

I was wondering what you guys know about oats... the ones processed seperately to wheat... cost a fortune etc. we got some freedom foods ones from franklins. i read that as long as the oats are these ones that are processed seperately then it is ok to use them.

i've been baking up a storm... mostly successful.

a good friend of mine has CD and recommended me some products that are mainstream and just happen to be GF. The mission brand corn tortilas. aldi plain corn chips and some others. just wondering if there were any cheap options out there that you have found.
i noticed the woolies homebrand cornflakes only are 'may contain traces' so bought some of those. i wondered if maybe i shouldn't have though.

nice to meet you all original.gif

Hi Cat, I can't answer most of your questions but most of the chains seem to have allergen information available on their websites..

Looking at it, it seems that the fries and the hashbrowns are gf. You'd just need to be sure that it's a store set up with a separate frie fryer. Apparently some smaller ones don't.

sanity is over-rated
Hi,

i believe that she should be ok with the same toaster as long as she doesnt show any effects from it. An intolerance is difference to coeliacs due to no internal damage being done.

maccas chips and hash browns are gluten free, however their ice cream is not. I think from memory their shakes are thou.

hj's icecream is gluten free from memory thou.

thanx original.gif

looks like we will have hungry jacks for icecream then! i will look into the shakes at maccas. we go to maccas very infrequently but DD does ask a lot so it would be a big adjustment to never go there!

rora eats (well, used to eat) the burger from the happy meal without a bun, the fries, and they also have friands, jaffa cake and cookies.

Noah has had the biopsy for celiac and its all confirmed that he has it, so hopefully now my 7 yr old (in 6 weeks) wil shoot up from his current 105cm tiny stature and 17kg weight!!

This is the one place I hoped never to be with all the other issues, but sadly Im here and I guess the sooner we get it sorted and get on with life the better.

I will need some help with his diet but the gastro said he will book and appointment etc with the dietetics ro something but he wants me to start him gluten free now! eeeek

However, ALL he currently eats is: (ASD - significant sensory issues)

cereals for breakfast - milo/cherrios/yoghurt/cocoa bombs and cocoa pops

Lunch - cereal as above or occasionally will eat 2 min noodles or sausage rolls/pies

Dinner - cereal as above or sausage rolls/pies/pancakes (with hidden mushrooms and zucchini and cheese)

So basically he lives on milk and cereal!! Which he cant have now except Cocoa Bombs (Lowan)

Any ideas on how I can make this transition suitable for him? Obviously its extremely importatn that he goes gluten free as he was born nearly 10 pound and should be a tall strong boy not the sz of a 4 yr old.

Im not sure how we are going to cope with just yoghurt and cocoa bombs 24/7! lol

Also all my boys will be tested, as it appears that at least two more will be likely diagnosed celiac as well, as they have all the classic symptoms and failure to thrive also.
(so nah nah nah stupid doctors that blamed me for my children being so small - it wasnt me at all!!!)

witha bit of luck you might find he broadens out what he eats once he starts feeling better *fingers crossed*

well, we had our first glutening in 18 months here today sad.gif rora was at vacation care and they had an excursion to a kids cooking class. they made pastry and apparently despite ryan and emelia both saying that rora needed gluten free someone decided the pastry they were making was indeed Gf and gave it to her (she knows to check but will believe what any adult tells her).

as soon as i got her home and in the shower i called the vac care people to let them know and make sure it doesn't happen again!
