Hi Ladies,
I had my daughters eyes tested today and they told me that she could benefit from having glasses when reading BUT she doesn't really need them. She said that when testing her eyes she prefers and finds it better when slightly magnified. They said they might help her concentrate better and help when she is tired. So i cant decide whether to get them for her or not. Has anyone been in this situation? Thanks in advance |

I was in the same situation when i was a child.. I certainly did find it helped, but i was finding that i saw everything else much clearer too and wouldn't take my glasses off when not reading. I ended up needing them full time. I suppose if she did wear them, then to make sure she takes them off when she's not reading.

Thanks girls, i just dont want to get them and it teaches her eyes to be lazy. On the contrary in fact, in her situation what would be happening is that when she is reading her eyes are having to work extra hard to focus on the words which causes fatigue and strain of the tiny muscles in and around the eyes which translates into general fatigue, loss of concentration and headaches. Wearing a pair of glasses allows those muscles to work normally rather than overwork to correct an abnormality, thereby making the whole reading experience easier and more comfortable. I have a similar situation, only need glasses for reading and my prescription is the weakest you can get, with just a tiny bit of magnification. I certainly don't "need" them, but it does make things easier. They were particularly valuable when I was studying for exams etc. These days I barely wear them at all. |
