HI there i have just put a deposit on a Strider Balance Bike it was $165.

It has a very lightweight metall frame like a bike and the rubber wheels and are very light my DS is only a light weight himself and i found the wooden balance bikes heavy two people also recommended this too me.

If you google on youtube you can see how they look!

Good luck hope you find the right bike suitable for your twins.

Sasha

I would think that any balance bike sold through a reputable cycle shop would be well made and last a decent time. I have seen a few cheaper ones which have weathered badly (wooden ones) or rusted. The Strider is sold in cyle shops and is one that DH is looking at for our DS for christmas!

The strider one looks great and I have my eye on it for my two year old - it had a very low seat height and looks well made.

We just got an avanti lil ripper one for my older son for his 4th birthday - I wanted to try him out on it so we got it from a local bike shop. It's fantastic - very similar to the strider but the seat doesn't go as low (my two year old can't reach the ground - but he's only 85cm).

How old are your boys?

Just wondering - what IS a balance bike? I keep hearing about them and have no idea what they are!

DD is getting a bike for her birthday (turning 3) but its just a normal bike with training wheels. Should she be getting something else? unsure.gif

I love the Strider. We got it for DD2's 2nd birthday as it has a low seat height and all the others were too big. Its nice and light too.

We also got the strider for DS and he has had it for about 5 months and rides it really well now.

Lozoodle – A balance bike is just a bike without pedals. Apparently kids learn to ride a bike better with a balance bike because the hardest part about learning to ride a bike is learning to balance rather than the pedalling. So once kids get good balance they should be able to ride a normal bike without training wheels. Balance bikes like the strider are good for small kids as they are small and light weight (strider is 3.2kg I think) but you can just take the pedals off a regular bike. The area where we live is hilly so it’s actually much safer for DS to ride a balance bike because he has more control.

We also brought DS a strider for his 2nd birthday and he LOVES it. It was only about 4-6 weeks before he was already gliding on it around the house and down the park, highly recommended.

I loved the fact the seat can be adjusted to any height and that the handlebars fold flat (a lot of others don't) to prevent chest/face injuries if they fall off.

we bought an early rider a couple of years ago for our 2yo. it is fully adjustable... seat, handlebars turning circle etc. and he loved it. it also looks unlike any of the others on the market and lots of other parents comment on it.

2yo is now 4 and on a real bike without stabilisers and his 2yo brother has now inherited the early rider and loves it.
