I am currently pregnant with my second child - 9 weeks. I am already booked into king Edward in Perth from 16 weeks.

I had my son at 30+6 about 5 years ago. He was in hospital for just over 9 weeks and came home at 1445g (one of the smallest babies to be released from KEMH). The reason he was born early was be ause of IUGR caused by low to no placental blood flow through the arteries.

So, my question is.....how many people have had multiple prem babies? Should I be expecting to have another prem? Or is the risk the same as any other pregnancy? None of the people I met in hospital the first time had the same problem as me, so I'm not sure if their experiences are relevant to my situation.

I am prepared for another prem (getting everything Organised early and have plans for care of my son while I am in hospital). A little ott I know! But I like to be prepared and Organised for the worst case scenario.

Oh, and I will be talking with my ob about this at 16 weeks too. Just wanted a few real life stories too

I have. My DS was born at 33wks due to severe p/e, HELLP & IUGR. Our twins were born at 32.2wks due to PROM & beginning of p/e.
I was at risk as p/e can appear again & because it was twins too.
I was prepared for it like you so bags packed by 24ish wks. Don't think it's over the top at all.
My 2nd DS was born at 39wks, no p/e, nothing.

My niece had two prems in a row, no known cause. One at 34 and one at 32 weeks.

She felt like her third pregnancy - 37 weeks went FOREVER!

I know nothing the same as your situation but I had a 36 then 35 weeker (both had good stints in SCN) then was on bed rest and in and out of hospital with my 3rd from 25 weeks with a VERY irritable uterus - she ended up being born the day before her EDD. Best of luck and I hope you can cook this bub a bit longer than your first.

Hi. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

All 3 of my babies were born before 37 weeks. All due to blood pressure issues except DS2.

I had pre-eclampsia with DS1 - I was hospitalised at 33 weeks, he was born at 34. He was in special care for 2 weeks.

I had pregnancy induced hypertension with DD which was developing into PE. She was born at 36+5 and spent 48 hrs in special care.

I had BP issues again with DS2 but he had to be delivered at 35 weeks due to non-reassuring CTGs. I was having constant contractions and his heart rate kept dropping. He spent 48 hrs in special care. He was then discharged and brought up to me but ended up being readmitted into special care a day later due to jaundice and a golden staph infection in his umbilical cord He came home a week after his birth.

With DS2 I was at the hospital most days in the weeks leading up to his birth for constant monitoring. I had an overnight bag packed which lived in the boot of my car. I always joked that if I took my bag I would be coming home. The time I didn't take my bag with DS1 and DD, I was always admitted

I don't think that you can be over prepared. Especially when you have another child you need to factor into the equation.

I am not sure about your situation but I had a 37 weeker then a 33 weeker. I am too scared to go back for a third.

I've had three premmies....

First one - 35 weeks
Second one - 34 weeks
Third one - 28 weeks (but IUGR 25wks)

I was banned from going again and tubes were tied during last C-Section.

i had my first at 38wks, my second at 31.6 weeks and third at 34.3 wks they dont know why and they couldn't tell me at the time if I would go early or not with the third. best of luck hope your little one stays in longer then the first.

did they give you a reason for you 1st being prem?

I had a 28weeker then went on to have a full termer. Pregnant again and will again be organised from 24 weeks but have no reason to think I will go early again.

My friend's first baby was born at 36+3, second baby at 33+4, so for her the second bub was earlier than the first.
