With the current water restrictions and things probably to get even tighter in that department, out lawn is looking pretty sad. unsure.gif

A while ago my friend was talking about synthetic lawn and "how good it is these days".

I googled it and it doesn't look too bad..here is one example Enduroturf lawn example. cool.gif

Can't find any prices on it though..but WDYT? Do you have it or have you seen it around..? Is it a viable option? huh.gif

We looked at it for a small area in our front yard and it is really expensive. We ended up paving instead. Google it on the internet

I remember seeing an article in the paper recently about one of the Kangaroos footballers who put it in his yard. I think it could probably be okay. I wouldn't want to pave my entire backyard, so this would be a good alternative.

We are having our backyard either paved or done in stencil concrete. We were thinking of putting a small area of this under the kids swingings and tramp. Hopefully it won't be too much given the area is not that big.

Thanks for the replies..had googled "synthetic grass", "synthetic lawn", "artificial grass" and "artificial lawn" but had no luck on prices. wacko.gif

Anyway, just tried the Trading Post online...and found a distributor who is starting up in Adelaide..they referred to it as "synthetic turf", so didn't find it till now rolleyes.gif

Its called Xtreme Turf..all prices are listed!

Prices are from $40 per sq/meter..which is comparable to the larger size paver's I have been looking at....?

I actually saw this for the first time only two days ago. A house had done their whole front yard with it. I looked twice only because it seemed so strange to see such green grass (so used to seeing the brown dustbowls these days). I have to admit I was surprised it could look so good!

Billy How did you know that it was fake? Did you feel it or just by doing a double take it looked fake? wink.gif

I'm sorry I don't have any testimonials to add but I just wanted to say that the grass looks fantastic. I would love to hear from someone who actually has it and/or go to a manufacturer and feel it.

Does anyone remember the horrible fake grass they used to have at swimming pools in the 80's? It used to scratch our legs and was terrible to fall on. It seems from the pics that the grass has come a long way.

Also interested to know what you would need to do to lay it- ie prepare the area.

Aha! You got me! I looked twice as I said because it was so green and everything else is sooooo dry.

But when I went closer I realised it was too "perfect" looking for a normal lawn. For example, under a large tree it went right up to the garden edging that surrounded it, whereas with normal grass it would be a bit patchy under a large tree IYKWIM?

But yes, you're right, you could tell it was fake but only after checking tongue.gif .

I will be still and know you are God.
hi! my husband has just started laying artificial turf as a suppliment to his gardening business... its actually really popular here and is in the same price range as good quality pavers laid, it is still early days but if the rate at which he is putting it down is any indication i think he will be very busy with it!!
