Pregnancy was terrible for my face. It was red dry and itchy the whole time. People often asked what was wrong with me. :-( DS is now 10 weeks and my skin has improved but will never be what it was. Its still dry even though I'm using a thick moisturiser. I'm using Ella bache creme intex and am applying it constantly. I have lines on my face that weren't there before. Some fine lines and some quite pronounced. I'm not really sure how else to explain my skin but it's noticeably not good. It's like it aged 20 years during my pregnancy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I cab improve my skin? Or at least stop it getting worse.

I've found switching to Moogoo Milk wash in the shower to be great, and for my face I use Simple facewash and moisturiser. But if your skin is really bad you might want to see a dermatologist.

I use Rosehip Oil (it's organic) from Endota on my face. Just 2 drops is enough to keep my skin moisturised all day, even after swimming, sweating etc! Put it on your fingers and rub it onto damp skin once a day. The stuff is magic! Costs about $35 but my bottle has lasted for at least 6-9 months (have lost track!)

Oh my goodness! Poor you, as if the pregnancy and looking after a newborn aren't hard enough....
For what it's worth, I felt really aged during the months following DS' birth, but now I am beginning to feel normal again. You should definitely go and see a dermatologist. Perhaps it is a hormonal issue....Hormones will settle down, give it time, but seeing a dermatologist might just get you there sooner! |

I wasn't sure if a dermatologist might help? I think of them as being medical professionals and I'm not sure I have a medical problem. More a cosmetic one? Anyone have dermatologist recs for Newcastle or central coast? Or maybe Sydney

I have quite sensitive skin and get dermatitis around my eye so I use Avene products - they have some kind of French magic thermal spring water http://www.avene.com.au/
It's a really gentle range and might help settle your skin, but do go and see a dermo - maybe your GP would be able to give you a referral? |

I had a similar thing, much worse around my mouth and nose area, which the dermatologist diagnosed as perioral dermatitis. Unfortunately, piling on loads of moisturiser actually made it worse. During pregnancy, I was treated with oral Erythromycin and while BFing, I took Erythromycin plus had Azaleic acid topical cream. There are more effective treatments available when not pregnant/BF, and I've found Proactiv keeps it at bay.
I saw my GP the second time it was really bad and he was very familiar - even commented on it as I walked in, so it was noticeable. Apparently it's quite common, so I'd start with the GP. |

Not sure if you've tried the Spiruline moisturiser by Ella Bache, but it's the only one that calms my cranky dry sensitive skin. You could ask for a sample and see if it suits you.

I had the same thing during pregnancy and afterwards. My skin was terribly dry for the first month until I started using Natoy's Intense M Body Oil on my face (and body). It is natural and contains Rosehip Oil which is good for skin dryness and elastisity. I hope you find something that works soon cause I know how uncomfortable and frustrating it can be. All the best

Another vote for rosehip oil. Without it my skin is dry, red, blotchy, flaky. With it I have normal clear skin. I use the Trilogy brand. I've been using it for years, before ever being pregnant, so can't tell if that effects it in any way.
Of course, if you are particularly worried, a visit to the GP can't hurt. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted soon! |
