I'm posting this in the older babies section hoping some of you more experienced mums may help.

My 11 month old DD has a comforter (bunny doudou style toy) that she has permanately in her cot for 1 and a half months. I bought it online from and was shipped from London. She has grown so attached to it and I realized I would need to wash it so bought to more with have arrived from overseas.

My problem now is she is attached to the smell. It hasn't been washed that whole time and actually smells really sweet like honey or fruit (she must have sweet saliva!)

I tried giving her the new one today in her cot during her day sleep (I already had it in her cot) and I could tell she knew it was different. She wouldn't sleep, cried and threw it out of her cot twice). She has never thrown her other one out ever.

What doi I do? Please help.

I have this problem with my ds, he is 3 & knows by the feel & look of it now! The only thing I have found to work is to keep washing it until it gets worn in look like the older one, tuck the new one in her bed with her while she still has the old one so it gets her smell on it & hopefully she will take to the newer ones. We have 4 blankies in rotation for ds at the moment has 2 out, one slightly newer & is known as his soft blankie lol. Maybe also see if she will help you wash her old blankie, it might make it smell a bit weaker & then she may take a new one or even be honest with her let her know there is another one because the one she has needs a bath & the new one is to keep her company while the old one has a bath but it will be back to snuggle with her soon? Good luck I hope you can work something out, this time around I have 4 blankies for dd ready to go when she is born original.gif

Thanks for your suggestions. I like the idea of washing it to make the smell a bit weaker. I might just give it a quick rinse under a tap with no soap so it cleans a little but the familiar smell still remains. I'll keep doing that until the smell gets weaker and weaker and it gets cleaner. Thanks again.
