QUOTE (la di dah @ 13/04/2012, 02:21 PM) This is the particular poster who once literally described Hitler as saint-like.

QUOTE (A Tiny Hedgehog @ 13/04/2012, 02:19 PM) I will stop calling Liberal voters the dumbest when they stop voting for hollow policies backed up by zero evidence and dodgy costings because Murdoch told them Bob Brown's going to take away their freedom. And I will stop calling labor voters dumb when there isn't a direct correlation between feral bogan areas and labor worship.

QUOTE (archy's mehitabel @ 13/04/2012, 01:35 PM) er.. .. I confess it was my first thought, too when I read he was resigning. I feel as shallow as a puddle when I realise that was my response to a major shift in Australian politics. ... um... But you know, he really DOESN'T look 67, does he? I think it's relevant if you are speculating why he was resigning. QUOTE (lady-android @ 13/04/2012, 01:46 PM) Thanks.
I'm not saying that Brown is not a caring, kind, good-hearted individual, who looks fantastic for his 67 years. Not at all, I think he's a wonderful man. away from politics.
I feel the Greens are unrealistic as a political party, and it makes me sick that so many people vote for them because it's the trendy thing to do. If you actually agree with what they stand for and think they'll be good as leaders, then fine, give them your vote. But if you're voting for them because it's the "cool, hip, newtown" thing to do, then you're a tool.
I can't say I'll miss him in a political sense. Hopefully he continues his great humanitarian and conservation works. If a voter is socially progressive there are truly few options in terms of parties to vote for. Sometimes it's a matter of weighing up how important social policies are compared to environmental and economic.

QUOTE (A Tiny Hedgehog @ 13/04/2012, 02:19 PM) You do if you're going to run into this thread accusing other people of being vacuous, ignorant or "trendy." Try stepping back for five minutes and really critically examining your own political biases and beliefs and where they came from. Easy test, answer this question: "Are the Coalition good with money?"
(Hint: The answer is "No." If you believe it is "Yes" I suggest reading up on some economists who aren't neoliberals.) ( Pop Quiz. Which political party plunged Australia into deficit in the late 80's/early 90's? ALP. Which political party pulled Australia out of deficit in the early 90's? That's right, the Coalition. Which political party was voted out and left the country in surplus in 2007? The Coalition Which political party is in power currently, and has dropped Australia back into deficit through wasteful spending? You got it, the ALP.

QUOTE (monique13 @ 13/04/2012, 02:28 PM) Tiny Hedgehog- not all Liberal politicians or supporters are rabid extreme right wingers. There is a broad range of ideals, ranging from the extreme right to the center. Which mirrors the ALP. Many Liberals would support gay marriage and an ETS- remember that's what lost Turnbull the job (and he only lost by one vote). Tony is not that popular. yes. very true. I think the Liberals need to watch how loudley they are crowing about the current 'implosion' of the ALP. If they win the next election they will have a very familiar looking problem... electable party with a leader who is incredibly unpopular with voters. The Liberal party is winning in the polls - not Tony Abbott. But that is not where this thread started. So back to the issue at hand. What will the Greens look like post Bob Brown? I hope that they remain a team based party and Senator Scott Ludlam becomes the deputy leader - he is a fantastic guy. I have met him quite a few times and he really does have the conviction of Bob.
