I was going to wait until closer to next year but please can you add me to the list now? July/August 2013 - LA - Vegas - San Francisco - Portland - Seattle - Vancouver Island - Alberta

I am crossing down the months. Is taking forever sad.gif

So far our goal plan is fly into LA, stay for about 9 nights, hit Vegas for about 6 nights and do a overnighter out to Grand Canyon. Head back to LA and jump on a train Seattle having a day or two in San Francisco and Portland. Probably have a couple of nights in Seattle. Then jump on a ferry to VC Island and stay with my dad for just under 4 weeks. While based at dads we'll head over to the mainland and do stuff in Vancouver, drive across the Rockies and camp at Jasper and Lake Louise. Go to Edmonton for a couple of days to visit West Edmonton Mall and visit some family.

I'm abit nervous about this trip. Normally just DD and myself go. This time however my sister, her hubby and their three kids are coming. Which will make for loads of fun and DD is very excited to finally be able to take her cousins to Disneyland and show them Canada. But I can imagine it is going to be chaotic with so many people.

Nanaimo Girl: You're on the list original.gif

I just popped into the mall to buy some new underwear (tmi??) and I cannot wait to go shopping in the USA! $15 for one pair of knickers here is ridiculous!

Kee - was that place you went called the seaside bar and grill or something like that? It sounds very familiar to a place went when we were in Hawaii. Also at the international Markets in the heart of it, upstairs is a Chinese restaurant, that was pretty good too.

Another travel insurance question! I'm trying to get it sorted this weekend - most of the companies don't seem to cover insolvency (e.g. of airlines). The one that does cover it is more expensive and doesn't have unlimited cancellation cover.

How important do you think insolvency cover is? I'm not really imagining that Virgin is going to go bust before September, but if they did, would it be covered under our credit card because goods were not received?

I read that even the company that does cover travel insolvency had excluded Air Australia a couple of months before it collapsed so policy holders weren't covered anyway.

Reader- we have the same issues. After I booked our internal flights I found that American Airlines had filed for bankruptcy so I searched for travel insurance to cover this if they did fold before we flew. I could not find one that would cover this and if you read the fine print insolvency is not covered by travel insurance even if the flight was booked through a travel agent as someone had told me. Then my brother reminded me that he had the problem going to Bali and the airline went under and he got nothing back even though he went through a travel agent and their recommended travel insurance. If you do find one that covers it please let me know.

Cheers

Robyn

Robyn, I think Covermate covers it - but I wonder if it really would in the event an airline went bust, or if there'd be some exclusion clause!

That's why I'm wondering if credit cards cover it because the good/service wasn't received. If it is covered in this way, then it wouldn't be necessary in the insurance would it?

I think thats why customers who booked flights with Air Australia using a credit card were able to get their money back... but not all flights are paid using a credit card, which results in problems.

Yes, that's what I thought too blackcat - just trying to verify whether that's what actually right! I guess I should ring our credit card company to check before we decide on who to insure with.

Had family friends (a couple) leaving for LA today (our time). They were flying Delta. She has facebook update stating that they could not/would not seat them together on the plane. He was at the front and her at the back.

This would be horrible on such a long flight!! I also pack all our carry one supplies together which would be difficult to share so far apart. I would not be impressed.
