I am so glad to read you found a workable compromise
 Could I please suggest that your child should not be allowed to hug a dog? This can be seen as a scary aggressive move to a dog. Same goes for being down at face level with them giving kisses - it's just potentially stressing the dog and risking your child being hurt. We had the most gentle dog with the kids, who happily had hugs and kisses but I taught the kids it's not OK and how to pat her the right way. Why? Because a) you never know when it is too much for even the most gentle dog and b) kids then tend to think it's OK with all dogs, and it most definitely isn't for many. All the best for the ongoing interactions of the human and fur babies in your house
