DS hasn't ever been much of a climber. I could happily leave him in a room and check on his periodically without having to really think much of it.

The other day, I told him I'd be back in a minute and then we'd change his nappy. By the time I walked to the bathroom (literally across the hall) and dampened a flannel, he had managed to climb up on the change table and turn himself around so he was ready for a change. It did freak me out and since I told him not to he hasn't tried again, but I wonder if there's anything else I really can do to prevent it. I certainly still need the change table.

Mine's a climber.

He climbs into and out of the cot, and into the high chair. He uses the drawer handles like a ladder, and will have a crack at the bookcase if we're not all over him.

He doesn't climb out of the cot at night now - because of some serious telling off, and he doesn't climb out of the highchair - same reason, but also because he has grubby hands on the way down and he has to wait to get wiped.

He also climbs trees (fallen logs etc) at 21-22 months.

People who see it are shocked, but he did this of his own initiative, and he's actually really good. He's excellent beyond his age at play equipment, and the only time he fell of something, it turned out some other kid pushed him.

Apart from not wanting him to think it's OK to get out of his cot at night and roam, or get down from the high chair when grubby, we're sort of OK with it. We do keep a close eye on him though, as we never know what he'll try next.

It's a sturdy wooden one so he can't tip it over.

I have a major climber and a jumper to boot . I regularly find her in the sink (nude of course) and have pulled her off a bookshelf once too.

The title of the thread got my attention because once I had put her to bed and after about 15 mins was hearing these awful thumps from her room. She was climbing the change table and then jumping off it! She has no fear

I'm so sorry, but that had me snorting. Glad to know it is not just me.
Are you saying I should feel better about it?

I'm not so much concerned about the changetable collapsing or anything. It is a sturdy Kingparrot one and even though it's on wheels, it's not easy to get going.

I suspect the only thing stopping him climbing out of the cot is the grobag.

It's got the storage for the MCN and I prefer to change on it. I know I could use the floor, but that would involve a lot more running away during dressing time.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I made you feel better or not there....

I just didn't make a big deal out of it andit lasted a couple of days and she moved onto climbing something else

Well, I didn't make a huge deal of it.. just walked in, got the shock of my life and told him he should have waited for me. Sounds like it might hopefully just pass.
