Apologies, I agree it's rude, just badly worded WDYT - I am very good at badly wording things
I have a Neice called Sophie in northern England, she is pronounced the other way. I have a French friend who's sister is pronounced the other way and it's nit Italian. Never mind, I shall be a tool (again - sigh!) This post has been edited by Dinosaurus: 23/02/2012, 09:58 AM |

I reckon it was just her accent I know someone that pronounces her son's name Toby that way. |

My neighbours from el salvador pronounce their sophia's name like that, Soh-fee. (sophie for short) I actually don't know how they spell her name, I wonder if it's with an f or ph...

OP did you see the name written down or just hear the mother say it - if its the former, fair enough, I guess - but if its the latter, it might not even be Sophie, it could be another name altogether or a nick name or a fun family name nothing to do with childs real name -I often call my kids Kiddo or Miss Muffett or Jelly-legs or other nonsense names - can imagine someone starting a thread about what a tool I am to give such names to a child
