On Monday I had an appointment with my OB who performed a S and S and found me 3cm dilated at 38.5 weeks. Which was a surprise because my first son was late (12 hour labour, epi and 2 stitches - exactly as I wanted - though I didn't have a birth plan). I lost my mucous over the next few days and had a few false labour pains and packed DS off to his grandparents twice.

I bled a little on Saturday night so hospital said to come in for a check. They found me still 3cm and sent me home with panadeine and sleeping tablets. The bubs head was still slightly posterior so they thought that is why I hadn't gone into labour yet.

At 4.30am I actually felt him flip around and kept sleeping. I called mum at 7am to warn her we might need her today to take care of ds. Pains were about 7-8 minutes apart then. 30 minutes later I called again to say please come now and called the hospital. We left home after 8am. It took me ages to get organised, packing for DS and showering. I really want my Mum to wait till I was ready before leaving with DS so I could say goodbye. Pains were bad but I still thought I had heaps of time in hindsight there wasn't really a let up they came on top of each other, though I did manage a chat in the car with the MW on duty in delivery.

We got too hospital at 8.20am It took Dh dragging me up in the lift to get from the carpark. Thank god we were only going a short distance and it was Sunday, the same trip at that time midweek can be 45 minutes. We made in less than 15minutes. Midwife did an internal and I was fully dilated! I thought I can't have any relief! No way! I wanted an epidural .

The next contraction I just remember yelling I need to push and remember feeling embarrassed about screaming - in pain I usually o very quiet. The midwife and DH were trying to get me to suck on gas. I felt huge pressure and his head descending. DS was born 2 minutes later without my ob and a midwife who barley managed to get a delivery pack open. Thank god Dh managed to stay on his feet all that screaming and we got every green light from bondi to Powp! My poor ob didn't make it!

Feel very blessed as I was up and in the shower 30 minutes later and only a small internal graze rather than external tearing last time around. The recovery has been so much easier. Though I planned an epidural I'm glad it happend as it did....
