i always found it much easier to unsnap nappies from inserts just after i took them off. much grosser when poo/wee has seeped into everything after 1-2 days.

BF poo is really watery. i never rinsed it off, ever. just unsnapped and chucked into bucket (i unsnap nappies but still leave them folded over on themselves so poo stays mostly contained within the nappy) so i just chucked pooey nappies in machine did a rinse, then a proper wash with powder. i just chuck all nappies and inserts in together, no washing poo ones or shells/inserts separate.

unfortunately yes, the bucket will get stinky in newborn stage, but nothing a quick rinse of the bucket and a dry in the sun if particularly stinky wont fix. you can also buy really big wetbags you can put in your bucket too, to reduce the smell, but no matter what if you have pooey nappies sitting in a sealed bucket for 1-2 days then yeah, its going to smell. but really, the bucket is only open for a few seconds when you chuck a dirty one in and a few mins while loading the machine.

i have never had my washing machine become stinky after washing pooey nappies.

it is really hard to get your head around doing it until you actually start. i started with just one nappy a day, working my way up until i felt more confident. yeah, i wasted a lot of water washing loads with only 1-4 nappies but its how i learnt.

LOL and just be prepared for your parents/ILs to "help" by soaking the dirty nappies in napisan. they dont realise they arent like the terry flats that they used when we were bubs.

I wash every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and again Saturday night for nappies. I also do normal washing, Monday and Friday. I recommend nappy bucket, attachment for toilet or laundry run to wash te soiled nappies off and also a bucket or bin for your nappy wipes if you use disposable nappy wipes.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation about each step. Now, I did get more idea and feel more confident to confront when my parents " challenge" me for using MCNs.

You also had my thoughts for them, mostly my dad, to wash in his old ways!
