Our wish for a donor angel to help us become a first time Mum and Dad.

My name is Andie, I am 42 years old, of Asian/Caucasian decent, and my fiancé Pete is 44. As with many couples, we met later in life, I was then 38. After a wonderful first year together we started talking about the future, and we were both definitely on the same page so far as marriage and having children were concerned. We were both so busy with work at this time that our future plans were left somewhat on the back burner for a while.

On Valentine’s weekend in 2009 and some months prior to my 40th birthday, Pete took me on a romantic getaway to (Inverloch). It was on this trip that we decided it was the right time to try for a baby, little did we know what a difficult road lie ahead of us.

We tried to conceive naturally for just over 12 months but to no avail. We sought the help of a doctor who performed a dye test to check the (tubes) among other things but he gave me the all clear. Three months later and still no luck, I was then referred on to a fertility specialist. At our first appointment we learned that the problem was poor ovarian quality and a low reserve. To say that we were devastated was an understatement. I felt especially upset at the thought that I may deny Pete his chance of ever becoming a father, but he has been incredible through all of this. He is my rock and I would not have been able to weather this storm anywhere near as well without him. However poor the diagnosis and likely prognosis, we decided to rise above this, soldier on and start IVF treatment.

To cut a long story short, it has been just over 12 months since starting our first IVF cycle . After having completed many months of treatment on and off during this period, the best we have managed to achieve is a biochemical pregnancy on our 5th of 8 tries. The fertility specialist felt it was now the right time to start talking about the last resort for us, and one that I had been dreading discussing for some time, being the donor option. It has taken the better part of this journey for me to accept that this may be our only option to have a baby but I’m glad to say that I am now well and truly in a place where I am fully on board with the idea, and so is Pete. It presents a more realistic possibility of having the child we so long for, which brings us to the reason for our sharing our journey to baby.

Our wish now is for a wonderful, generous woman to donate their eggs to assist in giving us the gift of becoming first time parents. For Pete and I, there could be no greater gift. I see my many friends and family members go through the joys of finding out that they are pregnant, the many days of morning sickness and everything else one experiences during pregnancy, and when the baby has come into the world, all the sleepless nights, nappy changes, and just the pure joy and privilege that they feel having these beautiful children in their lives. It is our dream to experience all of this and more, the only thing missing is our donor angel. Could you be our special angel?
