Hi,

We are planning to spend five or six nights in the perhentians in September.

W have never been there before so are looking for some tips on where to stay (which island, any advice about good hotels etc).

We have travelled a bit in Malaysia before (honeymoon in tioman) but never the perhentians ( had to check I was spelling it right!).

We will be making our way from Bangkok over land through Malaysia towards singapore so any other tips gratefully accepted!

We will have our four year old twins with us.

Thanks,

Pen

Pen, here is a link to a fabulous blog including their adventures to the Perhentians.

Fwiw my sister went last year and just could not stop raving about how beautiful it was.

We're going to be there in 4 weeks time!! (not that I'm excited or anything original.gif ) We're staying on the big island at Bubbles Dive centre, on the recommendation of two lots of friends.

But it depends what you're after - apparently Bubbles is quite isolated on the southern side of the island, and the accomodation is comfortble and air conditioned but relatively basic - family friendly rather than resort luxurious. But it does have a home reef, and the diving is meant to be fantastic. We're doing the more luxurious resort thing earlier in the trip

It's our first time in Malaysia, and flying from KL to Kota Bahru, so no further advice, sorry.

I cannot add anything except what Bron suggested and check out what Tracey and Colin have to say.
We are hoping to get there next year when we visit Malaysia, so will check in here for some more info.

Thanks for the blog link Bron- that looks very very good.

Dadathome- would be great to hear how your trip goes!

We are just looking for somewhere easy going, bungalows, good beaches, though I would like to do th glamorous resort thing I suspect I have neither the wardrobe nor the wallet for it and my husband is hanging into his/ our backpacker roots with all his might!

Thanks for the replies.

Hi
Very jealous. I have been there twice and loved it. The most recent time was 8 years ago though so things would have changed. We stayed in some very basic bures that were run on a generator. One thing that does come to mind is that there weren't any ATM's where we were so we had to leave the island a bit earlier than planned as we had run out of money.

I don't even know what part of the Perinthians we stayed out but can tell you the colour of the water is absolutely amazing. So, so clear. The food was nice too - pretty much chose the fish that had been caught hours earlier and had it cooked up.

Hi Pen,

Sorry, stealing your post a bit, but we're wondering what you thought of Tioman. We've planned a trip there in 2 weeks, but I'm not at all sure what to expect. Exploring is part of the fun, sure. But having some idea is half the fun eh original.gif

Got a few quick words for us? Is is a busy place? Are the resorts nice? What are the prices like? Just a basic idea would do nicely.

Cheers.
