Anybody know anything about Net Set GO?

It's run by our local netball association but their website, and the netball nsw website is down mad.gif and I can't find any info on it.

Anyone's kids play this? I know it's a skill based program, not like a team vs team competition as such, do they have training each week as well as the Saturday morning session, or just the saturday morning?

It sounds like a good introduction to netball for younger kids.

One of my FDC kids does net set go and i get the pleasure of watching her while my own daughters play comp netball. Its basically skills training every sat. They teach the rules and some basic skills and set them up for eventually starting in whats called moddies which is one up where they play teams but no-one keeps score on where any team is 'ranked' and instead of playing semi finals etc they play round robin short games for a few weeks. They then move up to proper competition the year they turn 11. At least thats how it is here..

Our association runs Net Set GO for 5 - 7 year olds. All the Netball websites are down at the moment, we are in Victoria and ours is too. original.gif

Has she just turned 7 or is closer to 8? From what I've seen most of the kids in Net Set GO are at the younger end more 5 and 6 year olds. In our club/association at least, once the kids turn 7 they can start in the NETTA teams. It is a competition against other clubs/teams, but the rules are modified and the ring is lowered. The coaches are allowed to run up and down the courts with instructions and the umpires allow longer to throw the ball and arent so strict on stepping. They also explain the rules if they have to pick kids up for being off side etc.

NETTA is for kids from about 7 - 9, then they go into the under 11 Modified teams, then the under 13's etc. The under 11 teams in our association also play with slightly modified rules (shorter quarters but the ring is full sized and they are not allowed to step) and dont play for finals unless they are in the 11 Open team (which are the kids who are younger but really good at netball, these do play for points).

In our club at least it's common for kids to start in the NETTA teams and even in the older teams who have never played netball before. They quickly pick up the rules and the kids and coaches are very supportive of newcomers. Our club has teams playing on Monday and Wednesday nights after school (my girls play the Wednesday comp) and Saturday mornings. They also have an hours training at another point during the week. The Net Set GO at our Association runs both Wednesday after school and Saturday mornings so parents can choose the time that suits them best. They dont do additional training though.

My girls never did the Net Set GO programme, one went straight into a NETTA team and the other into an under 11 team, with no issues at all. One of our coaches son's did Net Set Go for a couple of seasons until he was old enough to play in the NETTA team, I think about half way through the 2nd season he was over it as it was a bit repetitive and he wanted to start playing 'real' netball. He is a really good player now, in the under 11 team with my youngest daughter and a great Goal Shooter (my older daughter has a boy in her team too, mostly plays Centre and is lightening quick).
