Hi
I've heard you can join weight watchers while breastfeeding and that they take into account your feeding as far as points go. I was just wondering if anyone on here has done this recently as I was wanting to ask you a few Qs please. Thanks |

I am currently doing weight watchers while breastfeeding - and my mum is a current leader, so ask away First of all, has if effected your supply at all? How did they work out your points? I have bought the point calculator etc, but not sure how many extra points I should be eating to take into account my baby's needs. I'm desperately itching to start going back to weight watchers as I find the support invaluable, but don't feel I can make it out the door with my newborn and three other little children. Plus I don't think I can completely commit to it 100% as far as attendence goes atm. My friend who still goes to weight watchers (we originally joined together) said she will support me and we can do weekly weigh ins at her place to try and keep my motivation up if I can somehow work out how many points I should be on. |

I am currently breast feeding and doing WW.
I went to meetings last time, but with two kids now that isn't going to happen! I just signed up online. You can do the whole thing from home now. You have a weigh-in day etc. The program will work out your number of points and adjust it down as you lose weight. Good luck! PS I do find I'm not quite as dedicated doing it myself, there's something about the semi-public weigh in that motivates me... ETA Definitely didn't affect supply - DS is in the top 5% for weight so my dieting certainly hasn't affected him This post has been edited by nlman: 23/04/2012, 08:37 PM |

I joined WW online when I was BFing DS. There is no way I could get to meetings, nor did I want to, but I found the points calculator and weight tracker etc excellent online.
There is an option online to tick a 'breastfeeding' box and it automatically adds 14 propoints to your daily allowance. Dieting did not affect my supply at all. Good luck with it |

No problem
Once you've got that number, you simply add on either: 14 points per day if exclusively breastfeeding OR 7 points per day if comp feeding or once baby starts solids It seems like a lot, I know! So, of course, try to stick to the filling and healthy foods to make up these numbers, lots of protein etc As for my supply, I didn't notice a drop at all. I started when bub was approximately 3 months old, so my supply was already pretty established, but as long as you are eating enough of the right foods and drinking lots of water I really don't think it will mess with your supply! I wouldn't expect great big loss numbers, the most you should really aim for is 0.5kg a week. Slow and steady and all that If you have a friend willingly to help out, that sounds wonderful! I find the support invaluable, having like-minded people around really helps. There is a great online resource as well, if you can't always make it out the house. Good luck! Feel free to ask anymore questions, I can always refer to my mum |

It's great. I got 29 propoints plus 14 extra for breast feeding, per day, plus a weekly stash of 45 points to use for extras.
I'm 170cm and 87 kgs to start. One of the other mums (much smaller than me) has 27 plus 14. That 14 is for exclusive bf, if you comp or start solids you have to start reducing that if you find you aren't losing weight. My son has started solids but is still feeding 6-7 times a day so I have guessed 10 points for bf. You can do it all online if you can't go to meetings. Don't think it's affected my supply at all, but have only been doing for 3 weeks. What I have noticed re supply is that it drops off if I don't drink enough water and get stressed. That's awesome Ladies, thanks very much for your help. Yes I'm exclusively BFing (so wonderful, to finally be able to exclusively Bf - fourth time lucky)
yes 14 does sound like a lot, but I'll give it a go. thanks for warning me not to expect big losses as I was getting big ones before and would have been disappointed if I wasn't warned. Thanks again for your help. xox |
