Hi, I'm interested to know how others store their toddlers toys?? I have a 2yo daughter and 11 month old son and our playroom is getting overrun!!! I realize I'm lucky to have a separate playroom but things are getting out of hand!

Currently I have two of those big colorful round tubs for the toys and a cute kids bookcase for books and smaller toys and other tidbits. There is also a big bucket of duplo, an activity centre thingo and some other larger toys on the floor and on the tv unit as they don't fit into the tubs. Also a table + 2 chairs for tea parties and drawing, and a chalk board.

I like to rotate their toys and change some of the toys in the tubs every few weeks or so with other toys I have stored away.

The place seems to be a mess! The buckets overflowing, etc I tidy up at the end of each day and am considering getting some type of organized bookcase - cubes or something for each type of toys (musical, craft, soft toys, trains, etc)

What do you do??? Help please!!!!

We have 2x IKEA Expedit (sp?) units. One 2x4 and one 4x4. We have tubs for all but 4 of the spaces, which we use for their books. Each tub has a specific type of toy (eg one for little People, one for all the Thomas tracks and trains, one for dress ups, two for Duplo etc). Then a few of their larger toys sit on top of the 4x4 unit. The kids are allowed to have 1 or 2 tubs out at any one time which helps to keep the mess to a minimum and makes packing up at the end of the day much more manageable. Plus they can't reach the top row of tubs so need to ask for help to get those down which means musical instruments etc can only come out when Mummy says it's ok wink.gif

I have a few sets of plastic drawers. They are not the nicest thing to look at, but they are great in terms of keeping things organised. Every drawer has a label. There is one called "miscellaneous". Once it starts getting packed, I know it's time to go through all the toys again.

Definately recomend IKEA expedits - cheap, variety of sizes, and lots of different tub options.

I also recommend filling every last cube with a tub Tounge1.gif all our toys just get chucked back in, so it looks much neater if they're all in tubs. For our almost 2 yr old we printed off pictures of different toys (blocks, animals, dress ups etc) and laminated them and stuck them to the front of the tubs, and she is slowly learning to identify which toys go where.

The IKEA Trofast toy storage system also looks good, and also cheap.

Thanks girls. The kids both have 4 x 4 expedit cubes in their rooms - and it sounds like a great solution for the playroom also.

I love the idea of the label pictures ladybird - thanks for that!

Looks like a trip to ikea is in order. I can't wait to get this room more organized :-)

Another vote for the expedit units. We have one for DD's play area. We have books on the bottom of the expedit unit and baskets of toys in the other three rows. We rotate the bins so it limits what she can pull out wink.gif

We also have a small 'pantry' for her play kitchen to keep all the little food/dishes/etc together. She uses her play kitchen a lot, so those don't get rotated out.

She is starting to get lots of little craft and art supplies, I need to figure out a good way to store all of it. Right now it's all in one bin and its hard to keep track of it.

do a toy cull. It really helps. Sounds like you have way too many toys so start by getting rid of the things they rarely play with.

I have expedit shelves( 2x 8 cubes) with storage bins on the bottom cubes . It helps a bit . Everything still ends up a giant mess anyway.... lol

We have the 5x5 expedit, and the bottom 2 rows are for the kids toys. Everything is separated in to boxes, one for blocks, one for soft toys, one for cars and dinosaurs, one for wooden toys, etc. We try to keep it to one box out at a time, but that is because we just have the one living space.

As they grow out of things they get a wash and sent to the shed to be pulled out when the next baby arrives.
