Hi Everyone,

I've owned a canon 350D for a few years now and it has finally reached the end of it's life. I have well and truly outgrown this camera!!

I've always wanted a 5D Mark ii but always thought they were more suited to professional photographers.
I contemplated buying a 7D but the 5D is always lurking around in my head so i though maybe for a few hundred more i should just go ahead and get the camera that i want.

Do you think this camera is too much camera for an amateur with a passion for photography?

I don't want to buy a 7D/60D only to be wishing i had spent that little bit more and got the 5D.

Any opinions?

I have a 5dmkii and I'm amateur.

However, the 7D is also an exceptional camera, but more suited to sports and wildlife photography than the 5D.

I'm not sure about the 7D's settings, but there is no auto function on the 5D, so if you can't use your camera in auto setting's you may struggle with it.

I dont think the 7D has auto settings either from what I read.

I have a 5Dmkii and want a 7D lol - Actually I want both (I have a 50D and the 5D).

I find the 5Dmkii great, but its a bit slow. I also have issues with low light with it.....I don't know enough about cameras to say if the 7D will solve that but Im guessing it will help.

If you can afford the 5D and will use it to justify the $$ then go for it, otherwise save the extra $$ and get the 7D and spend the extra on lenses.

The photographer is what makes the good or bad photo but a good lens sure helps!!

Yep have a tripod, and yep issues with focusing in low light conditions. It drives me insane!
I also need to investigate better lenses for purpose, that might help! lol

I dont think the 7D has auto settings either from what I read.

It has full auto, P, Tv, Av, M, B & 3 x user settings. It doesn't have the creative zone that you do with the 350D.

I upgraded from the 450D to the 7D a few months ago and couldn't be happier. It's an amazing camera.

The 5D II does have auto, so does the 7D

what lenses do you have? remember the 5D is sull frame so you cant use EF-S lenses with it.

with focussing, this may be more of a lens issue than body issue......

I only use the 24-105mm L on mine and I have the focusing issue, yet my 50D that I shoot right beside it doesnt at the same settings and light (similar but different lens - its a crappy basic lens).

I'm not sure what the issue is with the 5D, but it has driven me to want to smash the camera to bits at times lol. Never felt that way with the 50D.

In my case it may just be something Im doing wrong, lets face it Ive only been shooting a year so not exactly camera savy! lol
I shall investigate further before it drives me mad or I break the camera in a hissy fit

Im off to google the best lenses for low light long exposure photography any tips? lol

lol fertile - after reading that review and many of the comments perhaps Nikon is the better option!

I have noticed an issue with my shots a fair amount, and have tried to use mainly manual focus now, however as my vision isnt great I like auto focus.....but on a few occasions I swear my manual focus beats the auto!
