Hi,

My partner and I have been trying to conceive for 2 1/2 years and tomorrow we go in to Flinders Reproductive to learn about IUI.

I have a 5 year old daughter to my previous husband. So I feel very disappointed in myself that we are needing to go down this line.

We decided to try IUI for no more than 2 cycles just as it isnt as invasive as IVF - supposidley

I am nervous, anxious, depressed and excited all at the same time. I dont have any friends that I can talk to about this because they have all conceived naturally.

Any advice or good story would be greatly appreciated at this

How did you go at the clinic today? I bet they gave you heaps of information which I always found comforting.

Everyone copes differently with their treatment. I can understand you being nervous, depressed & anxious. Hang out in here and you'll see lots of stories that will give you hope.

Fingers crossed for you this is a really quick AC journey.

It was good, the nurse was so lovely and explained everything really simple and easily. My partner cant stand to think or look at needles so it was really hard not having him there to listern to everything and I do feel like I will be doing this alone in some ways.

But I have decided that when I have to do my injections he will have to do something for me, ie make me a hot chocolate, pack the dishwasher etc.

I would love to hear about any sucess or just stories about anyone's experiences with IUI

Dont be anxious. I did iui in jan 2010. I was nervous, anxious and positive it wasnt going to work considering the odds were 7% success rate with 2 tubes and i only have 1 working tube.

The day i had to start my injections (gonal f) i decided i wasnt going to make a big deal of it. I snuck downstairs early got it ready closed my eyes and just did it, and you know what, it wasnt that bad. Every morning i did the same thing making it feel almost a natural normal part of my day. My dh was still asleep so never had to see me do it.

And guess what! I got a BFP after my very first round.

So i wish you the very best in your journey. Considering you have a 5 year old i would assume the problem lies with dh's swimmers? Heres hopong you get millions of strong ones after the wash (we had 60 million left after the wash) and one of them goes on to bring you a healthy baby.

I've had IUI on 2 separate occasions and both have been successful.

The injections are bit overwhelming before you start but once you actually do it you may not find it to be that bad. I preferred giving the injections to myself than to get DH to do it as I could anticipate it rather than not know the exact second the needle would go in.

Thanks everyone, it is great to hear positive stories knowing that they say the stats are only 20%. Well tomorrow will be classed as day 1, bit scary, but exciting. I JUST WANT A BABY!!!!

My concern about doing the injections myself, will have to be out the window by day 5 because DP wont be here, he is away.

Wish us luck, here we go.
