Hello all,

After some deliberation and visits to several hospitals in Melbourne, so far it looks like my preference is to birth my baby at Frances Perry House (although I have yet to visit Mercy, scheduled for a tour next weekend, so this may change).

I have already been doing some research on OBS, however now my preference for a hospital has 99% been locked in, I need to re-do some of that research and focus on FPH OBS. I do have private health insurance and have looked into my out of pocket costs for my hospital stay etc. I really need advice and information about your experiences/preferences with FPH and the OBS who practice there.

Right now I'm hoping for a vaginal birth, with an epidural. At the moment the idea of a C-section only appeals to me if it is medically necessary.

Cost is obviously an important factor as we're not loaded, however don't have a preference for the OBS gender, just as long as they are caring, compassionate and are good at what they do.

I know this has been asked many times before, however due to the rules about posting for this type of information, I need to ask for it again and hope you will all be kind enough to take the time to take a few minutes to send me a PM. I don't mind if you copy and paste something you've sent to someone else.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,
Where do you live OP?
I delivered at FPH but it was many years ago so right now I am not too sure about what the Obstetricians Management fees for there are like. Hopefully someone who has been there recently who can help you out.

If you were going to the Mercy you could be a private patient in public or just a public patient who really accesses the same resources. There is still a zoning procedure in place at the Mercy unfortunately.
Hope you get some help here.

hi

I had DS at FP three years ago andit was excellent, except the food was ordinary. I am having DD there this Monday and am looking forward to it. the facilities are great and the midwives good.

However I am more impressed with my Ob than he actual hospital. She is awesome, however from July she is delivering from the Epworth only. I have heard good things about the Epworth from frieds so would have definitely followed her there if we were having bub post July.

I will PM you (if I can work out how to do it - I am not a very experienced EBer)

I cant PM you either - have tried twice with lots of details about my ob.

Can highly recomend her and her fees are reasonable. I have had two precious MC and this is a high risk birth and she has managed it wonderfully. Only issue is she is moving to Epworth from Feb and delivering there from July (which i have heard is a great hospital too). I would choose her over the hospital.

hheart.gif Loved FPH. I actually have had both births there with 2 different Ob's.
I'll pm you. 1st one was great and lower fees. 2nd one was more pro VBAC so went for him and also because I knew him on a personal level. Thought that too odd for my 1st birth but then got over it after having her.
I ended up at Grand Hyatt last time around it was fabulous.
Will hope to have my 3rd at FPH with my 2nd ob again.
FPH was so much more pleasant an environment for me than Mercy was.
Goodluck

I went there, and my only complaint was that the hot water was too cold! So much for using the bath/shower for pain relief!!

I saw an OB that is part of a group practice, all female doctors - I'm sure you could work out who they are from the webpage. My OB was lovely, but I saw all of the doctors in the practice while I was pregnant, and I would have been happy with any of them during the birth. Fees weren't cheap, but certainly not unreasonable for inner Melbourne.
