[Party of 5]

Has anyone here had or been to a Harry Potter themed birthday party as I'm after some ideas for my DS 9th birthday next month.

My eldest has a harry potter themed bday for his 6th.
All the guests had witches hats, I bought a lot of halloween decorations which worked really well and was cheap.
For games we had pin the wand on harry, floating doughnuts (doughnuts tied with fishing wire, the kids had to eat them without using their hands) and a snitch pinata.
I thought about getting a magician but left it too late.

I had one for DS1 a couple of years ago, I think he was 11.
I bought the themed invitations( like these) and some plates , cups and serviettes from birthday express. Decorated the table and food area with black and blue. I put lollies in little witches cauldrons , on sale from halloween.
I made a sign for the front of the house that said platform 9 3/4.
I had it as a BBQ in the back yard and decorated the back yard with skeleton ballons and tied scarey masks( you know the cheap plastic ones that cost like $1) in a big tree to look like the forest. Played some halloween music in the back ground.
I served sausages or steak burgers but don't really remember what other food I had.
When the kids came I gave them a paper bag decorated with a house symbol and inside there was a wand, a lightening strike tattoo and glasses. They used that bag for the lollies from the pinata, which was a ghost. The kids played games like murder in the dark, and I did up a big container of jelly with things in it, that they had to dig out.
I'll have a look at the photos and see what else I can remember.

If you google Harry Potter parties you will find heaps of ideas as there are a lot of blogs where people have done HP parties.

We were thinking of doing one for my DD but now she wants an outdoor movie party. We are going to do:
Paint an old sheet to look like bricks and put a slit in it at the entrance so they can run through like platform 9 3/4
Sorting hat - put a some sort of ipod or MP3 inside it with pre-recorded decisions for which house they will be in (or you could have this secretly in your pocket)
Wands - kids pick a wand (piece of dowel) and decorate it at start of party
Quidditch - pool noodles to act as goals. Teams trying to get the ball through the goals while one person from each team searches the area for the golden snitch (yellow ball hidden)

I did a HP party for my eldest boy who turned 5 this year. I got these fab invites off etsy and printed them off at home on the printer. Everyone said how great they were and they were really cheap to do.

We had the party at a mini railway so the tickets tied in with the theme.

For the party bags, I got wizard glasses, chocolate frogs from Haighs and made a frog card with my son's face on it to go with the choc frog. I melted down crayons and molded them into an owl shape attached them to a small notepad. You can buy them already done though from etsy. Lastly I put a handful of jelly beans into a pouch.

I also had a fab cake made of a spell book with wizards hat.

DD had one for her 9th party. We had test tubes to put sherbert in then add softdrink. I bought little cauldrons for the sherbert. We had butterbeer, pumpkin pasties, bertie botts every flavour beans, pumpkin juice, ton tongue toffees, bassilisk eggs, cockroach clusters, elixir of life, can't remember what else.
