DD1 has been calling DH and I by our first names for the last 3 or 4 days. Prior to that she always called us Mummy first name and Daddy fist name. Not really sure where she got it from but was cute so let it be.

Not really liking her calling us by first name only so do we just ignore it and hope it is a phase that will pass or correct her and say something along the lines of "you atr to call me mummy".

She is big into names at the moment and asks me all the time what's that lady's, dogs, bird, girl, ants name.
WDYT leave it be or correct her?

Personally, I wouldn't but my DS calls me by my name often and it really isn't an issue for me.

I guess it just depends on whether or not it bothers you.

I wouldn't correct it if my 3 year old called me that. After all, it's my name and she hears everyone else calling me by it.

Why does it need "correcting"? What is incorrect about calling you by your name?

If it bothers you, perhaps you need to think about why and be able to justify it (an older child might ask "why can't I call you that, it's your name?".

If I told my kids not to call me my name, because they would know it annoys me!

My 4yo DS has been calling me by my first name for about 16 months now. He does at times call me mum, mostly when he is upset. I don't correct him as the pp said, he hears everyone else call me by my name.

Thanks for your replys. I have decided to let it be. As said, it's my name and why shouldn't she call me that.

My not quite 2 year old is doing this at the moment. She thinks its rather funny actually. Agree to let it be, she will get over it soon enough!

I don't think it is a big deal to correct her if you want to.

I certainly would prefer to be called mum by my children. I am their mum after all. I think they are capable of understanding that I am called mum by them and my first name by other people at 3 and even younger.

My 3 year old DD is also trialling using the first name every now and then. We don't jump down her throat but do correct her - "You don't call me 'first name' you call me Mummy/Daddy!".

My DS is 3.5 years and also calls me by name occasionally. I often say "everyone in the world can call me Jxxx but you are the ONLY person in the world who can call me Mum".

Cows carrying cakes and candles.
My nearly 3yo is experimenting with names at the moment. Mummy, mum, Jxxxxx, Jo, Daddy, Boozshy-boozshka; they all get a run.

I answer to mummy and mum. When she calls me something else, I laugh and say 'did you call me ...?' She laughs and says 'yesssss' Then she's back to calling me mummy or mum. She tries it once or twice every few days, I guess.

I still struggle with mum, though. I thought I'd have at least another couple of years of being mummy...
