DS has woken up this morning with what looks like a cold sore on his lip. sad.gif

I've never had one but DP gets them occasionally, although hasn't had one recently. I got DP to take a look, because I'd have no idea what they look like and he said its most likely a cold sore. MIL had one in her nose a week or two ago, and it wouldn't occur to her not to kiss him, share food with him etc. She's always licking her fingers and touching things but that's another post entirely. rolleyes.gif He stays with her every Friday night. DS also goes to daycare two days a week. Where the hell did he catch this?

I've avoided the subject with MIL for some time, but I think a talk maybe on the line about her 'bad habits'. She is going to be really upset.

I know it's not the end of the world, it's only a cold sore. I'm just really angry.

I'd be really upset at your MIL! How could she not be careful around a baby while she had a cold sore!!

I would get your DS checked out by a doctor. Herpes in young children can lead complications due to dehydration, and in very young infants can be very dangerous.

I would also speak to your MIL about appropriate hygiene when she has a cold-sore. Herpes is no fun for anyone...unfortunately if your DS has already contracted it, there's not much that can be done, but she might need to be reminded how contagious it can be.

She'd have no idea Xiola, none at all. This is a woman who will prepare food and instead of wiping her hands on an apron or tea towel will lick her fingers. sick.gif I'm to blame for this, I really should have warned her yet my fear of offending her stopped me. rant.gif

We've put some Zovirax on it and I'll take him tomorrow. He's eating and drinking fine but has been excessively whingy the last couple of days. Apparently they tingle/burn before the blister appears so that's probably what was bothering him.

I just did and have a 70 year old in tears. Because it was in her nose she didn't think it was an issue. She apologised and asked me if there is anything she can do and I said 'Um no, you've given DS herpes, I think that's quite enough'. It's a shame something like this had to happen to finally give me the courage to say something to her about her ways. nno.gif
