We really struggled getting my DS to do poos on the toilet. He wee trained so easily I barely remember it. Never any accidents or night wetting or anything. But poos OMG poo. He was too scared to sit on the toilet so he would ask for nappy. We went along with it for a fair while under instruction from our GP that he would grow out if it.. except he didn't seem to. He was seriously petrified of sitting on the toilet. And even sitting on the potty was too much for him.
We ended up at a psychologist a little while before he was 4 and she set up a fantastic plan for us which ended up working wonders and just after he turned 4 he did his first poo on the toilet. I actually started thinking it would never happen and I was so stressed about him going to kindy next year unable to sit on the toilet. I was more happy then him when he finally did it and we all went out for dinner and bowling to celebrate. He now happily talks about pooing on the toilet thinking it is marvelous and everyone wants to know. Does yours look like a sausage or a hamburger he likes to ask Anyway my point is over the time of our struggle I read many other posts with kids also struggling with this exact scenario. I know I got very stressed about it all but I just wanted to say we finally figured it all out. If anyone wants to know the plan feel free to PM me. |

That's great. Not sure what worked for you...we always tackled this phase with a rewards box. I grabbed a cheap special looking box from the $2 shop & filled it with little presents eg. new textas, stickers, matchbox cars, colouring book etc. When our child sat on the toilet the box came out so they could think about which gift they would like if they did No.2. It worked for all three of our children with no dramas at all. One present was taken from the box each time. The box may have lasted 2 or 3 weeks until each gift was chosen & by then they were comfortable with using the toilet. It was also a great way of coaxing a scared child onto the toilet eg. if you sit on the toilet we can have a look at the box of gifts....

Yes!! This is my DD2 and I'm at a loss of what to do next with her? She was 3 in September and has been wee trained since before her second bday. It was so easy I can barely remember.
But she still will not poo on the toilet, like your DS she asks for a nappy. Pls any advice would be very much appreciated!! |
