I have three children - two of them had great eye contact from a very young age, but the third one had really poor eye contact. He would only look at us for a few seconds and turn away. I was worried and even posted on here about it. But he is now 1.5 years old and perfectly fine, so I worried for nothing. His eye contact started to improve after around 8 months.

I had the same thoughts at 6-7 weeks to, it seemed like my little girl was not making eye contact and even sort of avoiding it and she wasn't smiling either. Around 7-8 weeks she had a couple of very sleepy days and came out of it smiling and making full eye contact, it was almost like a developmental switch had triggered.

My baby is 9 weeks old and he is just starting to hold eye contact for longer and longer. Sometimes he won't look at me at all though, and actively avoids me when I put my head in his line of sight. I find that he maintains eye contact best when he's lying on the change table and also when he's sitting up, lying on my legs (when I have my knees up).

My bubby boy is 6 weeks old, I feel he is looking at me, but as someone else said, he has to be close & sometimes he laughs. My husband gets his attention more than I do. If its something you are worried about, talk about it with your healthcare provider at bubbys 6-8 week check :-)

My dd is, but it tires her out and can lead to overstimulated crying. The other day we had a chat with her in my arms staring at me and cooing, with me cooing back, and she was smiling away. I then laughed and she tried to copy me, but could only make a squeaky noise. I also put on a dancing show for her while she was on the change table, which she loved, staring and smiling and seeming to try to jig along.She will also sometimes stick her tongue out in response to me or dh doing so at her.But then days of things like that are followed by days like today when all she wants to do is sleep or cry, and has barely looked at us or smiled at all.
