I want to send my CV to a company that aren't actually advertising any job vacancies at the moment. Just thought I'd send it in case something came up and they can keep it on file. They advertise any vacancies on their website and there are none at the moment suited to me (Admin work or PM data entry).
I'm not too sure about the wording I should use to start off the email. I'm thinking about something along the lines of... Please find attached my resume for your perusal. Although (insert Co name) currently do not have any vacancies on their website I have attached my resume for any future positons that may be suited to my qualifications. How does that sound? Would love to hear if it could be tweaked a bit better. This post has been edited by belinda1976: 14/03/2012, 12:18 PM |

Great idea! That is how I got my current job
I would say Dear Sir/Madam (If you can call the company and get a name that would be better) I am currently looking for work in the admin/pa area, and feel that I would be well suited to XYZ company. (If you can say why you think so, then do) I realise you have no positions advertised on your website currently, however if a suitable position becomes available in the near future would you please keep my resume on file for consideration. |

Most of my jobs over the years have come about with me doing the same thing but I never mentioned that there weren't any jobs advertised. I would always phone or visit the company first and ask if there were any positions available (even if you know there aren't) and if not, would it be ok if I submitted my cv for their file for any future vacancies. Try and get a point of contact and state in a covering letter that you spoke to "Jane Smith" regarding submitting your cv.
I learnt very early on that personal contact makes a huge difference in applying for jobs. Good luck! |

Interesting idea! I had no idea that something like this would work.
My husband is in HR and if they receive any random resume, they immediately get binned or deleted. He or his team, just don't have time to sort them. We are in the mining industry in Qld though so there are a lot of people trying to get into the the industry and they received thousand of randoms (that is the word they get for them) each year. |

QUOTE My husband is in HR and if they receive any random resume, they immediately get binned or deleted. He or his team, just don't have time to sort them Really??? OMG I hope that's not what happens to my CV I also feel I should probably mentioned my availability to work. Some people have said not to mention it at all but I feel like I should be upfront and as honest as possible. I have DD1 at school and DD2 that goes to preschool on Thursday & Friday. I can only work between school hours on a Thurs & Friday or at night. This particuarly company has night time data entry positions. I started to wrtie this: I am a mother of 2 children and I am looking to re-enter the workforce on a permanent part time basis. My eldest daughter is at primary school whilst my youngest daughter is in pre-school on a Thursday and Friday. I’m hoping to secure a position ideally between school hours on these days or at night on any day during the week. But I feel it's too long. WDYT? |

I wouldn't write anything about your schedule.
I would just write you are seeking employment in an Administration role on a part-time basis. Then put a brief overview of your experience &/or qualifications (very brief - they will read your resume). Tell them if they wish to discuss further you are available for an interview at their convenience. Good luck! |

Keep it brief, don't include anything about kids at school, hours you want etc. If I received a letter like this it would end up the same place as the CVs received by the PP's husband.
As an employer I want to know what someone can offer me, not why I should give someone a job to fit around their schedule. |
