I would like to juice for this pregnancy rather than take the whole suite of vitamins I took for my first pregnancy. Has anyone done this? Can anyone point me in the right direction literature wise?

I dont know that I will be much help though I have a Juicer and am saving hard to replace it with a Vitamix (which are rather expensive).
I keep hearing and reading that so much nutrition is lost when we juice fruit and veg and I really do hate how much wastage there is when I prepare my juices each day. So much pulp thrown away. The Vitamix is a whole food juicer so it literally turns whole pieces of fruit and veg into a smoothie like consistency with no chunks or textured bits, meaning you receive far greater nutritional benefit than you would if you used a normal juicer that solely extracts the juice and leaves you to throw away the pulp. The trick I believe is in the speed the blades turn in a Vitamix (something crazy like 350km/hr!). So, I would probably look at purchasing a Vitamix or a Blendtech or one of the cheaper versions of these machines first (do your homework before you buy a cheaper version though as some do not turn it into a smoothie and you'll end up with textured bits). In regards to what to juice, I would recommend googling Alkaline Food/Diets as this will probably give you a good list of alkaline fruit and veg recomended to juice - I personally juice celery, sprouts, beetroot, ginger, lemon, apple (small amount only just to give it a hint of sweetness) and cucumber. I think you will find this type of juice is better for you than say a combination of orange, apple, pineapple, strawberry etc which are more acidic. I also add Spirulina and Chloropyll to my smoothies/juices. |

I have a vitamix and it is fantastic - we use it for green juicing that is hard to do in lower quality blenders. It has been recommended that green juicing is the best way to get your daily requirement of vitamins & minerals. Basically its adding a handful of spinach, kale, cos etc to a small amount of fruit with water. The taste is delicious - one of my favourites is green grapes, pineapple, spinach & strawberry.
The vitamix comes with a recipe book and there are many, many sites and facebook pages with recipes and blends for all types of health conditions. In this case, Google is probably your best bet |

Smoothies are better because then you retain everything in the fruit/veg, especially when it comes to leafy greens. I drink a shake in the morning which is full of vitamins and minerals and protein:
1/4 cup oats 1 handful of mixed berries 1 handful of spinach 1/2C milk 1 scoop of Choc Protein Powder 1 TBSP of LSA Blend and it's a yummy choc-berry shake packed with goodness |

Was going to ditto the smoothie thing. I did green smoothies first pregnancy (second pregnancy I gave up and did chocolate
Juicing would likely just get you massive doses of sugar that you wouldn't otherwise consume while pregnant - at least if you vitamix/smoothie, you're getting the associated bulk/fibre. |

You should probably know that fruit juice contains huge amounts of sugar, even when you do it yourself. Fruit is designed to be eaten whole and it requires your body to produce large amounts of insulin to deal with it every time you drink it. Green juices are different, it all depends on what you are mixing with it. Considering the epidemic of gestational diabetes, you are probably better off eating normally and taking a multivitamin every day. |

I'm assuming the oats are uncooked? Do you just use normal rolled oats? |

The main thing I would worrying about when having juices instead of pregnancy vitiamins is that there are a lot of extra things in pregnancy vitamins that you might not be able to get from juices. Such as: How will you get your Iodine? The right amount of Folic Acid and Iron etc.

Juicing provides access to many different vitamins that the juiced fruits and vegetables have to offer.when you drink fresh juice instead of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, you can absorb up to 90 percent of nutrients. Alternatively, by chewing solid food and breaking down nutrients through digestion, you may take in only about 35 percent. You can get a large percentage of vitamins from the foods you juice if you are pregnant.
